Josh Spry of the Iron Dragon Karate Club in Rockwell won his first full contact kickboxing match on Nov. 3.
The fight was hosted by Brent Pierce and took place at the The Crossing of the Dans in Danville, Va.
Spry walked away from the ring with the middleweight belt after knocking out his opponent 1 minute, 27 seconds into the first round.
Spry is trained by Brian Heffner.
The McCanless Golf Club hosted a golf tournament on Saturday to help raise money for the family of Kaylea Fuller.
The team of Scott Blackledge, Brad Black, David Alexander and Barry Gant won first place with a 57. The team of Steve Dabbs, Royce Barnhardt, Roger Bowman and Steve Gavvon placed second.Godstock raised $3,457 to help Fuller’s family.
The South Rowan Lightning baseball team finished fourth in the Tournament of Champions held in Concord. The Lightning are ranked sixth in AAU play and eighth in the
USSSA.
- North has shoulders, tickets
North Rowan’s boosters club is barbecuing shoulders for Thanksgiving, and orders may be placed by calling the school at 704-636-4420.
Cost is $3.50 per pound.
Advance tickets are available for Friday’s football playoff game with Pisgah in the school office. Cost is $6. Seats for season ticket holders will be held until 7:10 p.m. on Friday.
NCHSAA and North Carolina Coaches Association passes will be the only passes honored.
Lake Norman Charter School won a recent cross country run with North Hills placing second and American Renaissance Middle School taking third.
Top North Hills runners were Randy Linhart, Ricky Cullop and Jon Lang.
- Peeler wins tennis tourney
Lexington’s Matt Peeler won the
14-year old boys singles division in the Fall Brawl Tournament held at the Bingham Tennis Center.
Peeler defeated Winston-Salem’s David Hopkins 6-3, 6-3. The tournament was a USTA event with more than 70 participants. Peeler is the son of Bill and Kay Peeler, formerly of Salisbury.
Salisbury Parks and Recreation will hold its first annual Western Steer Basketball Turkey Shoot this Sunday at
2 p.m. The event will be at the newly renovated Hall Gym.
Participants will test their basketball skills and accuracy in a free-throw shooting contest. Age groups include boys and girls, ages 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-and-older. Cost is $1 for city residents, $2 for non-city residents.
First place winners will win a
