Jewell S. Barringer

RICHFIELD — Jewell Shank Barringer, 79, 28594 Misenheimer Road, died Friday (Nov. 9, 2001) at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

Born Nov. 20, 1921, in Stanly County, Mrs. Barringer was a daughter of the late James F. and Lucy Eudy Shank. She was a homemaker and a member of Richfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband of 61 years Ray Barringer; son Terry Ray Barringer, Richfield; daughters Brenda Kimrey, Norwood, and Jan B. Myers, Joy B. Medlin and Lori B. Burris, all of Richfield; sister Jane Smith, Albemarle; and six grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Gordon Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Pleasant, conducted by the Rev. David W. Lowe. Burial, Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Fred Andrew Coble

KANNAPOLIS — Fred Andrew Coble, 76, 1806 Joe St., died Friday (Nov. 9, 2001) at Eden Gardens of Concord after six months of declining health.

Born March 17, 1925, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Coble was a son of the late George F. and Louise Blackwelder Coble. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge 626.

A member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, he was active in the choir and sang in a quartet for many years. He retired due to health problems after many years with Cannon Mills plant 1. He was a foreman in the air condition/refrigeration department.

His wife Ailene Carter Coble, died Aug. 4, 1998.

Survivors include daughters Kelly Deal, Stanfield, Kim Bentley, Statesville, and Vicky Cochran, Kannapolis; brothers G.F. Coble Jr., Kannapolis, and Bill Coble, Faith; sisters Mary Ella Mitchell, Kannapolis, Margie Eddy, Denver, and Nancy Harper, Hickory; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev.Susan German. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Joe Street.

Karen Jane Massey

Karen Jane Massey, 50, formerly of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) in Las Vegas, Nev.

Born Sept. 13, 1951, in Salisbury, Ms. Massey was the daughter of Elon F. Massey, Salisbury, and Sally W. Massey, Oak Island. She was a graduate of Boyden High School and attended Western Carolina University.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter Jennifer Massey, Oak Island; and brothers Greg K. Massey, Salisbury, and Dale L. Massey, Central, S.C.

The body was cremated. No local services will be held.

 

Harold H. Melton

ADVANCE — Harold H. Melton, 67, Baltimore Road, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at home.

Survivors include a sister, Maudie Harris of Mocksville.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Davie Funeral Service chapel. Burial, Cornatzer United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

John A. Snotherly

NEW LONDON — John Allen Snotherly, 85, 44550 Ledbetter Road, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center in Albemarle.

Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Stanly County, Mr. Snotherly was a son of the late William Clay and Lena Coggins Snotherly. A 1935 graduate of New London High School, he retired from Standard Oil Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1976. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

His first wife, Evelyn F. Snotherly, preceded him death.

Survivors include wife Ruby Fraley Snotherly; stepsons George and Monroe Miller, both of New London, and John Miller, Summerville, S.C.; stepdaughters Peggy Killenger, Casper Wyo., and Mildred Miller Wagoner, Gold Hill; a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Stanly Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Boyd Joyce and the Rev. Caroll Flack. Burial, Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio, at a later date.

Visitation: 3 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Stanly Funeral Home.

Memorials: Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

 

Mary O. Trexler

COOLEEMEE — Mary Osborne Trexler, 80, Center Street, died Friday (Nov. 9, 2000) at home.

Born Oct. 13, 1921, in Davie County, Mrs. Trexler was a daughter of the late Julius C. and Mary Bruce Osborne. She graduated from Cooleemee High School in 1939 and retired from Celanese in Salisbury. She was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church and the VFW Post 1119 Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Survivors include husband of 55 years, Andrew “A.T.” Trexler; brother Paul Osborne, Lexington; and sister Bessie Osborne, Cooleemee.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Victory Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Shelby Harbour and the Rev. Michael Motley. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Victory Baptist Church.

Davie Funeral Service is in charge.
