Cora ‘Lou Lou’ Carter

COOLEEMEE — Cora Louise “Lou Lou” Carter, 74, Cooleemee, died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, from a massive heart attack.

Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Carter was a longtime resident of Cooleemee. She retired from Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, and currently did in-home aid for the Community Alternative Program. She was a life member of Liberty AME Zion Church.

Her husband, Willie G. Carter, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons Willie J.and Melvin E. Carter, both of Cooleemee; daughter Rosa Carter, Woodleaf; sister Debora Cuthbertson, Lexington; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Liberty AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Mildred Lawson. Burial, in church cemetery.

Visitation: 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Graham Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

 

Bobby Locklear

Bobby Locklear, 59, 1250 Sidney Drive, died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at his home.

Born May 2, 1942, in Scotland County, Mr. Locklear wa a son of the late Frank and Corrinna Mae Hicks. He was educated in the Scotland County schools and was employed in lawn maintenance and landscaping.

Survivors include sons Bobby J. Locklear, Lumberton, Frank Locklear, Laurinburg, and Brandon and Brian Helms, both of Concord; daughters Mae Maynor, Laurel Hill, and Jennifer and Stephanie Helms, both of Concord; sister Ida Mae Walters, Laurinburg; and 14 grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Greenlawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt.

Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,China Grove.

 

Brenda S. Lopp

LEXINGTON — Brenda Faye Smith Lopp, 59, Pinecroft Boulevard, died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) at University of North Carolina Medical Center, Chapel Hill.

Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

Patricia J. Morgan

Patricia Ann Jordan Morgan, 51, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at her home.

Born May 12, 1951, in Rowan County, Mrs. Morgan was a daughter of Dorothy Goodman, Salisbury, and the late Eugene Jordan. She was educated in the Rowan County Schools and was a graduate of West Rowan High School. She had also attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

A homemaker, she was earlier employed with American and Efird of Salisbury. She was a Baptist.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband Kenneth Eugene Morgan; son Christopher Wayne Plummer, Salisbury; brothers Tony, Thomas and Eddie Jordan, all of Salisbury, and Frankie Jordan, Lynchburg, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dick Foy, pastor of Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Morgan, 3635 Dunn’s Mountain Road, Salisbury.

 

Robert Oscar Morgan

The funeral is today for Robert Oscar Morgan, 77, Salisbury, who died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital,Charlotte, after two weeks of serious illness.

Born Sept. 9, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Morgan, a son of the late Clarence S. and Erma Shaver Morgan, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

He recently retired from Bill’s Exterminating Co. Earlier, he retired after 27 years from A &P Co., where he was an assistant manager.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a church trustee.

Survivors include wife Arleene Koontz Morgan, whom he married Oct. 30, 1943; son Robert David “Bob” Morgan, Davidson; daughter Judy Morgan Peeler, Salisbury; sister Gertrude Morgan Broadway, Salisbury; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Services: 3 today, Emmanuel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald S. Wagner, former pastor, and the Rev. Bill Hallman, pastor. Entombment at Rowan Memorial Park.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge. The family will be at the home.

Gladys Bostian Smith

LANDIS — Gladys Hortense Bostian Smith, 80, 919 S. Zion St., died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center,Salisbury.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Letha ‘Mary’ Smith

ALBEMARLE — Letha Mae “Mary” Dunlap Smith, 84, 623 Bethany Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at Stanly Manor Nursing Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Friendship Baptist Church. Burial, Stanly Garden of Memory.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Edward J. Straub

The funeral will be Sunday for Edward J. Straub, 90, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Aug. 5, 1911, in Alleghany County, Pa., Mr. Straub, a son of the late Edward and May Clery Straub, was educated in the Alleghany schools. He was a graduate of Perry Hill School and attended the University of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh.

For 22 years, he was employed with Equitable Gas Co. as a field geologist. Later, he was a manufacturing representative with P.F.Sherman Co. He was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.

He moved to Salisbury in October 1978 with his wife Elizabeth Jennings Straub, who died Aug. 6, 1997.

Service: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Don Bedsole, pastor, Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. The body has been cremated.

Visitation: After the service at the funeral home.

Walter M. Treadway

LEXINGTON — Walter Moore Treadway, 91, Mills Street, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at Sunbridge of Lexington after three weeks of declining health.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Mills Street.

 

Cora Mae Tucker

RICHFIELD — Cora Mae Allen Tucker, 83, 208 Winter St., died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at her home.

Born Feb. 12, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Tucker, a daughter of the late Walter O’Neil and Sarah Branson Allen, had been employed at Cannon Mills. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include son Don Gordon, Richfield; daughter Linda Stewart, Harrisburg; brother Glenn Allen, Concord; sister Margaret Walker, Concord; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Furman Wilhoit. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Estelle H. Wilhelm

KANNAPOLIS — Estelle Honeycutt Wilhelm, 94, formerly of Buick Avenue, died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at Big Elm Nursing Home. She was in declining health for seven months and seriously ill for two weeks.

Born Sept. 19, 1907, in Iredell County, Mr. Wilhelm was a son of the late John David and Mattie Morrow Honeycutt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Alexander Wilhelm, and daughters, Colleen Irvin and Linda Wright.

Survivors include daughter Faye Booe, Concord; son Voyte Wilhelm, Kannapolis; sister Mary Moose, Kannapolis; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. W. Dale Tanner. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
