Carol Collier Adams
SPENCER — The funeral will be Monday for Carol Collier Adams, 65, Spencer, who died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Meansville, Ga., Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Harry Otis and Mildred Barrett Collier. She graduated from Plant High School in Tampa, Fla.
A homemaker, she was a member of NARFE and was of the United Methodist faith.
Her husband, Madison Monroe “Mac” Adams Jr., died March 24, 2001.
Survivors include son James Douglas Adams, Westfield, N.J.; daughters Debra Lee Adams, Louisville, Ky., Melanie Ackerman, Charlotte, and Karen Marie Hemme, Arlington, Va.; brothers Robert Collier, Dothan, Ala., and Michael Collier, Florida; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Monday, National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, conducted by a chaplain from Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Ervin S. Armour
Ervin S. Armour, 85, Salisbury, formerly of Statesville, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at his home.
Born March 11, 1916, in Statesville, Mr. Armour was a son of the late Arthur Edward and Carrie Shelton Armour. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Retired from the accounting firm of Sherrill & Smith in Salisbury, Mr. Armour served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Huggins Armour, who died Aug. 24, 2000, and his son, Ervin Lee Armour.
Survivors include two grandchildren and six grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Sunday, at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tony McDade.
Visitation: Following the service.

LEXINGTON — Grace Morris Worthey Druary, 90, East Center Street Extension, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at her home after three years of declining health.

LEXINGTON — Juanita Parks Hedrick, 66, Siouan Drive, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

James L. Kendall
NEW LONDON — James L. Kendall, 81, 40395 Barnhardt Road, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation of Salisbury.
Born April 20, 1920, in Stanley County, Mr. Kendall was a son of the late George and Vera Davis Kendall. He was educated in Stanly County schools and was a retired licensed building contractor.
Mr. Kendall was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a former Shriner. He was a member of the Union Chapel AME Zion Church in Albemarle, where he was a former chairman of the board of trustees, board secretary, usher board member and church secretary. He was also a member of Joseph P. Evans Consistory and was a past master of Stanly Lodge No. 88 F&AM, a past patron of Ivey Chapter No. 126 OES, and past secretary of Stanly Lodge No. 88.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Sturdivant Kendall; sons Gary L. Kendall, Lexington, James L. Kendall Jr., Marietta, Ga., and Antonio J. Kendall, Charlotte; daughter Dollye Kendall Mack, Winston-Salem; brother Jessie Cletus Kendall, New London; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Union Chapel AME Zion Church, Albemarle, Conducted by the Rev. Cecil Alsobrooks. Burial, 1 p.m. Tuesday, National Cemetery in Salisbury.

Thomas W. Steelman
KANNAPOLIS — Thomas Woodrow “Tommy” Steelman, 36, 350 Mobile Home Park Drive, Lot 3, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born July 7, 1965, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Steelman was the son of Sarah Elizabeth Steelman Henry, Kannapolis. He was employed with Scott’s Pressure Washing in Kannapolis and had previously worked for Fieldcrest-Cannon in the machine shop for seven years.
Survivors include wife Lucinda D. Thomas Steelman; daughters Tiffany A. Steelman, Kannapolis, Amy M. Steelman Witherspoon, Conway, S.C.; son Thomas W. Steelman Jr., of the home; brother Paul E. Henry, Whiteville; sister Samantha Childress, Kannapolis; one one grandson.

Jonni Graham Lentz
LAURINBURG — Jonni Graham Lentz, 56, 410 Prince St., died Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at her home.
Born Oct. 16, 1945, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lentz was the daughter of John A. and Mabel Leazer Graham of Rowan County.
She was a legal secretary with Gordon, Home and Hicks PA for over 27 years and was a member of Lutheran Church of the Living Word.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Mac Lentz; sons Graham Lentz, Raleigh, and Travis Lentz, Garner; and sisters Faye G. Stirewalt, Kingsport, Tenn., Doris G. Hutchinson,Greensboro, and Vickie G. Williams, Churchville, Md.

James Ray Patterson
CHINA GROVE — James Ray Patterson, 85, 725 Highway 152 E., died Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing Home.
Born March 27, 1916, in Iredell County, Mr. Patterson was a son of the late Irl Ray and Bessie Mae Ford Patterson. He was educated in the Iredell County schools.
A farmer, he was a member of First Baptist Church and was a former member of the church choir.
Survivors include brothers Ed F. Patterson, China Grove, William G. Patterson, New Bern, and Donald C. Patterson, Marietta, Ga.

Lillie Smith Stout
The funeral will be Monday for Lillie Mae Smith Stout, 77, 1116 Crestview Ave., who died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a day of serious illness.
Born April 7, 1924, in Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Stout was a daughter of the late George and Lillie Mae Rabb Smith. She attended the Rowan County schools and was a 1938 graduate of J.C. Price High School.
Retired, she was formerly employed at Rowan Regional Medical Center and had also worked as a domestic worker. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church,East Spencer, where she was in the Senior Choir and the Missionary Circle.
Her husband,James B.Stout, died May 22, 1985.
Survivors include daughter Hazel Stout Kennedy, of the home; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Shady Grove Baptist Church,East Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Alonzo Williams. Burial, New Hope AME Zion Church cemetery, East Spencer.
Visitation: noon Monday at the church.
