Mary Collier Adams

SPENCER — Mary Carrol Collier Adams, 65, Spencer, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Fannie D. Clodfelter

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Fannie Louise Mauldin Dean Clodfelter, 83, 415 Park St., who died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.

Born Feb. 15, 1918, Mrs. Clodfelter was a daughter of the late John and Ira Honeycutt Mauldin. She retired from China Grove Cotton Mill and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Crawford Dean. Her second husband, Robert “Bill”Eugene Clodfelter, died Jan. 3, 1993.

Survivors include son James Dean, China Grove; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wilson, pastor, First Baptist Church. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Park Street.

 

Charles S. Huneycutt

Charles Spurgeon Huneycutt, 80, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer, after a period of declining health.

Born June 4, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Huneycutt was a son of the late Rev. Rufus Napoleon and Laura Cox Huneycutt. He was a graduate of East Spencer High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Japan during World War II.

In 1986, he retired as a supervisor in water waste treatment with the city of Salisbury after 30 years. He was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church and the Roman Gobble Sunday School Class and sang in the choir.

Also a member of the American Legion, he was a house parent at Donnelly Home for 10 years along with his wife, Eugenia “Jean” Blalock Huneycutt, whom he married Nov. 12, 1939.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include daughter Deborah Jean Hutchins, Hickory; and one grandson.

Services: 11 a.m.Friday,Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Pauline M. Kerley

The funeral will be Friday for Pauline Miller Kerley, 83, 404 Union Heights Blvd., who died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 11, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kerley was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Martha Trexler Miller. She was a homemaker and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include husband Leroy Kerley; sons Robert and Lester Shulenberger, both of Salisbury; daughters Lillie Weaver, Lexington, and Betty Lyon, Cramerton; stepsons David Kerley, Lakeland, Fla., and Barry Kerley, Charlotte; stepdaughter Sandy Lester, Salisbury; a sister; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum chapel. Entombment, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Union Heights Boulevard.

Memorials: Messiah Lutheran Church, 701 E. Lafayette St., Salisbury,NC 28144.

 

Beatrice W. Poteet

The funeral will be Friday for Beatrice Williams Poteet, 94, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury.

Born June 4, 1907, in Ramseur, Mrs. Poteet was the daughter of the late Ruben Edgar and Liza Anne Fogelman Williams. She was educated in the Greensboro city schools and North Carolina Women’s College, Greensboro.

In 1969, she retired after 10 years with Isenhour Brick and Tile. She had also worked with the Rowan County Tax Collectors Office and was a secretary for the Stanback Co.

A member of FIrst Baptist Church, she was in the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Auxiliary.

Her husband, Merriman Starkey Poteet, died in 1947.

There are no survivors.

Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts.

Visitation: Friends may gather after the service.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Hawkins Ross

ALBEMARLE — Mary Boyd Hawkins Ross, 85, 1900 Badin Road, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of son Mike Ross, 41352 Dennis Road, Albemarle.

 

Lucy Poteat Rusher

Lucy Poteat Rusher, 89, 103 Prestwick Court, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Joy Trexler Smith

The funeral will be Saturday for Joy Trexler Smith, 75, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 23, 1926, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith, a son of the late Joe Hurley and Maude Trexler Smith, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

A retired boilermaker, he had worked with Southern Railway. He was a retired member of Boilermaker Local 30 in Greensboro.

He was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include wife Rachel Morgan Smith, whom he married March 27, 1949; sons Gerald Smith, Granite Quarry, Richard Smith, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gary Smith, Faith; daughters Teresa Elrod and Rita Smith, both of Rockwell; brothers George W. Smith, Rockwell, and Joe Smith, Salisbury; sisters Rose Shuping, Morehead City, Thelma Marino, Cos Cob, Conn., and Maude Elliott, Richmond, Va.; and nine grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Wesleyan Church, conducted by the Rev. Lee Cockerill, visitation pastor, and the Rev. Ernest Mullins, senior pastor of Trinity Wesleyan Church. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Friday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Trinity Wesleyan Church, 2200 Mooresville Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.

‘Tommy’ Steelman

KANNAPOLIS — Thomas “Tommy”Woodrow Steelman, 36, 350 Mobile Home Park Drive, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001).

Ruth Kluttz Turner

The funeral will be Friday for Ruth Kluttz Turner, 69, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health.

Born June 28, 1932, in Rowan County, Mrs. Turner, a daughter of the late John Hubert and Marie Rives Kluttz, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

The owner of Lake Forest Gems and Gifts in Augusta, Ga., for over 22 years, she was a member of the Augusta Gem and Minerals Society. A member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, she was in the Elizabeth Seaford Sunday School Class.

Survivors include husband Bill Turner, whom she married April 9, 1948; daughter Billie Shotzberger-Carmichael, Salisbury; brother John “Butch” Kluttz, Fort Lauderdale,Fla.; sisters Florence Huneycutt, Salisbury, and Margaret K. Wall, Merryville, Tenn.; and one grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley.The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
