ALBEMARLE — Katherine Milton Almond, 91, 617 Fernwood Drive, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Central United Methodist Church. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Eric H. Augustine
Eric Howard Augustine, 86, Salisbury, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1914, in Geneva, Ill., Mr. Augustine was educated in the Illinois schools. He retired as a milkman after 30 years and was employed by the state of Illinois for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
His wife, Helen B. Augustine, and a son, Charles J. Augustine, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter Marian A. Farrell, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.
Services: None.
Evergreen Cremation Service was in charge.
Elaine K. Barringer
The funeral will be Friday for Elaine Annetta Kleckner Barringer, 71, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 31, 1930, in Berwick, Pa., Mrs. Barringer was a daughter of the late Abraham Oscar and Annetta Delp Kleck-ner. She was a graduate of Catawba College.
A retired elementary school teacher, she had taught at Faith and Rockwell schools. She was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and Spencer Women of the Moose.
Survivors include husband James Horah Barringer Jr.; daughters Sandra B. Johnson, Kennesaw, Ga., Margaret Elizabeth Brendlinger, Bechtesville, Pa., and Melanie Rebecca Barringer, Salisbury; brother Frank Kleckner, Berwick,Pa.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, at Jerusalem Baptist Church for LaTavia Michelle Everhart, who died Tuesday (May 29, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center shortly after birth.
The newborn was the daughter of Calvin Everhart and LaTonya White, 321 Woodson St.
The family will be at the home of grandmother Angela Ellis, 2130 Harrison Road.

Robert Lingerfelt Jr.
The funeral will be Friday for Robert Edward “B.J.” Lingerfelt Jr., 9, 220 Panfish Road, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, from injuries sustained in a bicycle/car accident.
Born Feb. 28, 1992, in Rowan County, the youth was the child of Robert Edward and Marlene Kirkman Lingerfelt. He was a student at Morgan Elementary School and attended Calvary Baptist Tabernacle.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sisters Tammy Renee and Megan Lingerfelt, of the home; and grandparents Clarence McFarland and Bobbie Kirkman, both of Salisbury, and Peggy McFarland,Conway, S.C.

Rev. Dr. Ernest Long
NEWTON — The Rev. Dr. Ernest Edward Long, 69, 1503 Brentwood Drive, died Tuesday (May 29, 2001) at Catawba Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born May 28, 1932, in Catawba County, Mr. Long was the son of the late Albert E. and Jeanette Wilson Long. During the Korean War, he served aboard USSFloyd B. Parks and as a hospital corpsman in San Diego,Calif.
A 1959 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and a 1979 graduate of Lutheran Theological SouthernSeminary, he received the honorary doctorate of divinity from Lenoir- Rhyne College in 1979. He also received the Brotherhood Award from Salisbury Chapter of NCCJ.
Rev. Long served as pastor of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove; Nativity Lutheran Church, Arden; and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury. He also served as pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hollywood,Fla., and served as pastor/developer of Living Springs Lutheran Church, Columbia, S.C.
He was on the Board of World Missions in Liberia, West Africa, from 1964 to 1971. In Liberia, he was pastor of Bomi Hills parish. He was director of an ecumenical Christian education curriculum design project for the Lutheran, Methodist and Episcopal churches in Liberia, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Rev. Long was a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church, Newton, where he was on the evangelism committee and was a member of the LSA Foundation.
Survivors include wife Jewel Deal Long; son Derek K. Long, Durham; brothers Eugene Long, Newton, and Donald Long, Maiden; and a grandson.
Services: 1:30 p.m,. Friday, Beth Eden Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bill B. Mims Jr., Bishop Leonard Bolick and the Rev. Ronnie Church. Burial in Eastview Cemetery.

Luke Edward Stiller
NEW LONDON — Luke Edward Stiller, 85, 25788 Harwood Road, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Oct. 23, 1915, in Rowan County, Mr. Stiller, a son of the late Robert Lee and Lilly Gaskey Stiller, served in the U.S.Army during World War II.
A retired land surveyor, he had worked for Ritchie’s Surveying. He was a member of First Baptist Church; Stanly County DAV, Albemarle; and Woodmen of the World.
His wife, Francis Elizabeth Forrest Stiller, died in 1999.
Survivors include sons Henry Stiller, Dallas,Texas, and Luke Edward “Ed” Stiller Jr., of the home; sisters Francis Almond, Badin, and Edna Hickman, Albemarle; brothers Harold Stiller, Badin, and Olin and Vernon Stiller, both of Albemarle; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Carter Witherspoon Jr.
Carter Witherspoon Jr., 76, 3046 N. 25th St., Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at Philadelphia Hospice Hospital after six months of serious illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Witherspoon was a son of the late Carter and Carlesie Barber Witherspoon. He attended the Rowan County schools and had been a construction worker.
Survivors include wife Maggie Reese Witherspoon, Jersey City, N.J.; son Carter Curtis Woods, Philadelphia,Pa.; daughters Shirley Russell, Baltimore,Md., and Sandra Corpening, Spencer; brother Harry Witherspoon, Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m., Sunday, Oakwood Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Alonza Williams.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home of Sandra Corpening, 513 Charles St.,Spencer.
