Rachel Morris Barber

Rachel Morris Barber, 71, Brook Circle, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at her home after an extended illness.

Born April 10, 1930, in Salisbury, Mrs. Barber was a daughter of Grady Alexander Morris, China Grove, and the late Annie Belle Karriker Morris. She was a graduate ofChina Grove High School.

Employed with Salisbury Marble and Granite Co., for 20 years, she also worked with WSTP/WRDX Radio Station for 20 years in the bookkeeping/accounting division. An active member of Enon Baptist Church and the Keenage Group, she was also active at Mount Tabor Nutrition Site and was vice president of the Happy Travelers Club at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.

She was a member of VFWPost 4006 Auxiliary and held various local offices, serving one year as state coordinator; was president of the District 12 Buddy Poppy Pageant; was a member of Milford Hills Lioness Club, serving as first vice president in 1990-1991; was a youth counselor at Milford Hills United Methodist Church from 1965-1970; and served as youth coordinator and was on the board of directors of Meadowbrook Teens.

Survivors include husband of 53 years Charles Leamond Barber; sons David M. Barber, Salisbury, and Michael E. “Gene” Lewis, Mocksville; daughter Sherry Lewis Thompson, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m., Wednesday, Enon Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30.Members of Mount Tabor Nutrition Site, Happy Travelers Club and Keenager Group will be seated together. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Brook Circle.

Era Ervin Donkle

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Era Ervin Donkle, 97, North Ocean Boulevard., a former Salisbury, N.C., resident, died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at Magnolias of Myrtle Beach.

Born May 27, 1903, in Catawba County, N.C., Mrs. Donkle was a daughter of the late W.W. and Augusta Gabriel Ervin. She moved from Salisbury to Myrtle Beach in 1948 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach.

Owner/operators of Pier View Motel for 53 years, she was a member of Hotel-Motel Association and Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. Active in the Republican Party, she was the first woman to run for Myrtle Beach City Council.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Donkle; a son, Ned E. Donkle; and a daughter, Betty D. Rinaldi.

Survivors include daughter Rowena D. Jones, Myrtle Beach; sister Flo Rilla Dunn, Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, McMillan-Small Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Brown and the Rev. Dr. Carl Compton. Burial, Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Betty L. Everhart

LEXINGTON — Betty Ann Lankford Everhart, 64, Pinetop Road, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after two weeks of serious illness.

Services: 2 p.m., Wednesday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Pinetop Road.

 

Nicholas Lynn Evick

KANNAPOLIS — Nicholas Lynn Evick, 3-year-old son of Bradford and Stephanie Stegal Evick, died Monday (May 28, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

LEXINGTON — James Joseph Harrison, 82, WarfRoad, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at his home.

ALBEMARLE — Geraldine ‘Mirt’ Hopkins Dry Hinson, 321 Depot St., died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at Albemarle Lutheran Nursing Home.

The funeral was at 10 this morning at Albemarle Wesleyan Church. Burial, Canton Baptist Church cemetery.

George Lee Malcolm

MOORESVILLE — George Lee Malcolm, 68, Whitman Circle, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Selma N. McClamrock

MOCKSVILLE — Selma Nichols McClamrock, 98, Cana Road, died Monday (May 28, 2001) at Autumn Care Nursing Facility.

Born May 21, 1903, in Davie County, Mrs. McClamrock was a daughter of the late Malvin Fowle and Lula Boger Nichols. She was a homemaker and was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Wiley Lee McClamrock, preceded her in death. There are no immediate survivors.

Services: 3 p.m., Wednesday, Davie Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brad Holliman. Burial, Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Sue Cox Miller

Sue Cox Miller, 64, 417 Wiley Ave., died Monday (May 28, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.’

Denell ‘Willie’ Wilson

KANNAPOLIS — Denell “Willie” Wilson, 68, 195 Briarcliff Drive, died Monday (May 28, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health.

Born Oct. 23, 1932, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Charlie and Annie Cook Wilson. He retired in 1982 after 25 years from Southern Latex Corp. He was a member of New Gilead Reformed United Church of Christ, Concord.

Survivors include wife Mary Aldridge Wilson; daughters Sharon Gulledge and Shirley Kiker, both of Kannapolis, and Gladys Page, Mount Pleasant; son Richard Russ, Concord; brothers Carl Lee Wilson,Concord, and Doug Wilson, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Peeler. Burial, New Gilead Reformed Church of Christ cemetery, Concord.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Briarcliff Drive.

Elizabeth Fleming Wiseman, Trinity Oaks, died Monday (May 28, 2001) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

EAST SPENCER — Carter Witherspoon, 73, formerly of East Spencer, died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at Philadelphia Hospice Hospital, Philadelphia,Pa., after six months of serious illness.
