Rachel Morris Barber, 71, Brook Circle, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at her residence.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Josephine ‘Jo’ Carlton

LEXINGTON — Josephine “Jo” Davis Carlton, 87, Maxwell Drive, died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at her residence.

Services: 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Frankie Patterson and Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Hospice of Forsyth, 1100 C. South Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.


George Clark

ROCKWELL — George Melvin Clark, 75, 5985 Old Beatty Ford Road, died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at his home, after three weeks of serious illness.

Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Rowan County, Mr. Clark was a son of the late Charlie Columbus and Lucille Williams Clark. He was retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1 as a loom fixer.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Thomas Levi Grimes.

Survivors include wife Mary Ruth Clark; son George M. Clark Jr., China Grove; daughter Linda C. Lynch, Kannapolis; brothers Doug Clark, Kannapolis, John Clark, Salisbury, Paul Edwards, West Virginia, Ray Clark and Edward Taylor, both of China Grove; sisters Patricia Hadcimichalis and Patsy Lee, both of Salisbury; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Tuesday at Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Greg Pierce. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

James ‘Dock’ Hinson

KANNAPOLIS — James Gilmer “Dock” Hinson, 86, 519 Charles St., died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at his home.

Born Sept. 7, 1913, in Gaston County, Mr. Hinson was a son of the late Arch and Ella Smith Hinson. He was employed as a fixer with Cannon Mills, Plant 4 card room for 50 years, until his retirement.

He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

Survivors include wife Eveline Grogan Hinson; daughter Diane Hinson Brown, Landis; brother Larry Hinson, Kannapolis; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Tuesday at Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Willie Rashand the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Ada L. Sells Howell

GOLD HILL — Ada L. Sells Isenhour Howell, 88, 24584 Mattons Grove Church Road, died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at the home of a son, William David Isenhour.

Born Aug. 30, 1912, in Stanly County, Mrs. Howell was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Annie Goodman Sells. She was retired from the China Grove Cotton Mill.

She was a graduate of Richfield School and Mitchell Home, now Pfeiffer University, where she was on the basketball team. She was a member of Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by husbands William Howard Isenhour and Claude Hampton Howell, son James Edward Isenhour, and two grandchildren.

Survivors include sons William David Isenhour, Gold Hill, Joe Kenneth Isenhour, New London, Howard Wayne Isenhour, Richfield; stepson Howard Howell, Norwood; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m., Tuesday, Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Bowman. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family will be at the home of William Isenhour, 24583 Matton Grove Church Road.

Memorials: Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, Restoration Fund, 24732 Matton Grove Church Road, Gold Hill, NC 28071.

 

George W. Thomas

LEXINGTON — George Wesley Thomas, 74, died Sunday (May 27, 2001).

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.
