Planning board will address mobile home regulations Tuesday night

BY JESSIE BURCHETTE
SALISBURY POST

The Rowan County Planning Board will look at regulations for existing mobile home parks in a meeting Tuesday evening. The board has been reviewing possible regulations at the request of county commissioners.

More than a year ago, planners and county officials looked at the possibility of establishing regulations for mobile home parks, but backed away. A committee of the planning board has been working to develop possible regulations.

Earlier this year, commissioners enacted text that prohibits dead storage of homes, allowing the county to take legal action to remove junk mobile homes from property.

In addition, the board discussed the ongoing effort to develop economic development areas along Interstate 85 between Salisbury andChina Grove.

The board is scheduled to conduct a public hearing on a rezoning request by Kathy Peeler. She seeks rezoning of property on High Rock Road from rural agriculture to industrial. She plans to establish a wood planing mill. The board will also conduct a hearing on a request for a conditional-use permit for property on Belk Road owned by Charles Johnson and Bill Scoggins, who also seek rezoning to industrial.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of race track regulations. Last month, the board said the county didn’t need any regulations, but county commissioners disagreed and have tentatively agreed on a series of new regulations.

The board meets at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Meeting Room of the County Administrative Offices, 130 W. Innes St.
