Addie Basinger

Addie Rinehardt Basinger, 94, died Friday (May 25, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Nov. 21, 1906, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Basinger was the daughter of the late Bickley and Martha Jane Boger Rinehardt. A homemaker, she was educated at Fisher School in Cabarrus County. She was a former Worthy Matron with the Rockwell Chapter No. 317 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rockwell Rural Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband, William Waverly Basinger, died May 24, 1990.

Survivors include sons William Lee Basinger and Fred E. Basinger, both of Salisbury; daughter Martha B. Parker, Salisbury; brother Harry D. Rinehardt, Salisbury; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Powles Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, pastor, First Baptist Church, Rockwell. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 5-7 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Percy Brothers

HERTFORD — Percy Brothers, 67, Harvey Point Road, father of Joseph Gilliam of Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 22, 2001) at Albemarle Hospital.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday, New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Hertford.

Visitation:6-8 tonight at the church. Burial, church cemetery.

Stallings Funeral Services is in charge.

 

Johnny Blackwelder

VIENNA, Ga. — Johnny David Blackwelder, 65, 206 N. Fifth St., died Thursday (May 24, 2001)at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

A native of Rowan County, N.C., Mr. Blackwelder was a retired country club manager. He was president of Country Club Managers of America and a member of First Baptist Church of Vienna.

Survivors include wife Roseitta Booth Blackwelder; daughters Maria Rauch, Greenville, S.C., Kristi Fenner, Fayetteville, N.C., and Kelly Hagler, Newton, N.C.; sister Judy Blackwelder, Salisbury, N.C.; and 17 grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 1 p.m. Tuesday, City Memorial Park, Salisbury, N.C. There will be a memorial service at 4 today at First Baptist Church in Vienna.

Hughes &Wright Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Marie Paige Hudson

Marie Paige Hudson, 65, 620 Hallmark Estates Drive, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 6, 1936, in Marshall, Mrs. Hudson was a daughter of the late George and Jerda Zachary Paige. Educated in the Madison County schools, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include husband J.B. Hudson; sons Jimmy Blizzard and Ricky Hudson, both of Salisbury; daughters Regina Blizzard Woodie, North Wilkesboro, Sherry Blizzard Alexander, China Grove, and Windy Hudson Briggs, Salisbury; sister Rose Sells, Landis; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted the Rev. Don Crysenberry. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Estelle Daniel

KANNAPOLIS — Estelle Alexander Daniel, 95, formerly of 205 Bell St., died Friday (May 25, 2001) at Transitional Health Services.

Born Sept. 20, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Daniel was a daughter of the late Ira Newton and Mattie Emma Karriker Alexander.

She was employed with Cannon Mills Co., Plant 1, sewing room for 38 years until retiring in 1972. A member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, she was active for many years with the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Bible Study Group.

Her husband, James Walker Daniel, died in 1971. A stepdaughter, Lorraine Daniel Dunnmon, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Doris D. Hileman, Kannapolis; sister Virginia A. Brown, Landis; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services:3 p.m. Sunday, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation:1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Louise Hallman

KANNAPOLIS — Louise Chapman Hallman, 76, 1316 Dogwood Ave., died Friday (May 25, 2001) at her home.

Sudie Arlene Kerr

KANNAPOLIS — Sudie Arlene Heglar Kerr, 88, formerly of 270 Corriher Grange Road, Mooresville, died Friday (May 25, 2001) at Big Elm Nursing Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kerr was a daughter of the late Vick and Julie Cohen Heglar. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired from the sewing room at Cannon Mills. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Her husband, W.A. “Rube” Kerr, died Oct. 9, 1991.

Survivors include son Bobby Lee Kerr, Mooresville; daughter Peggy Sue K. Parks, Kannapolis; brother Fred Heglar, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Concordia Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Conrad. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.

LEXINGTON — Clay Parks, 80, North County Home Road, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center in Winston-Salem after three weeks of illness.

Services:3 p.m. Sunday, Davidson Funeral Home.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, at the funeral home.

LEXINGTON — J. Smith Young, 83, 603 Weaver Drive, died Friday (May 25, 2001).
