Joyce Cook Ballard

CONCORD — Joyce Cook Ballard, 53, 243-1 Country Club Drive, died Wednesday (May 23, 2001) at his home.

Born July 11, 1947, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Ballard, a daughter of Rachel Cook, Kannapolis, and the late Jesse Cook, was a graduate of West Stanly High School. She was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband James O. Ballard Jr.; daughter Tammy Lynn Haigler, Kannapolis; and brothers Dennis Cook, Kannapolis, and Jerry Cook, Concord.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Foursquare Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Burris and the Rev. Gary Clouse. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, HartsellFuneral Home, Concord. At other times the family will be at the home of mother, Rachel Cook, 997 Alabama St.,Kannapolis.

Memorials: Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E.Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204; or First Foursquare Church, 452, Brookwood Ave. N.E., Concord, NC 28025.

 

Addie R. Basinger

Addie R. Basinger, 94, Salisbury, died Friday (May 25, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

Pauline F. Cline

KANNAPOLIS — Pauline Fisher Cline, 93, formerly of South Main Street, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Stanley Total Living Center, Stanley.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mamie Adams Kirk

KANNAPOLIS — Mamie Adams Kirk, 91, formerly of East 21st Street, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born July 7, 1909, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Kirk was a daughter of the late Daniel Floyd and Katie Barlow Adams.

Her husband, Raleigh Lee Kirk, died in 1977.

Survivors include sisters Effie Wyke, Millers Creek, and Belva Helms, Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Billy Rintz. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

 

Edgar A. Miller

SEDGEFIELD — Edgar Alexander Miller, 86, Sedgefield, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at High Point Regional Hospital.

Born in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a member of Masonic Lodge 681 in High Point. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the railroad as an engineer after 47 years of service.

Survivors include wife Virginia Daisy Miller; daughters Gay M. Stevens, High Point, and Victoria “Vickie” Walker, New Bern; sister Zeta Miller Smith, Salisbury; brothers the Rev. Coy Miller, Salisbury, James Miller, Virginia, and Earnest Miller, Cary; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel, Greensboro. Burial, Guilford Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

 

Walter Lee Myers

LINWOOD — Walter Lee Myers, 71, 1565 Swicegood Road, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at his home.

Born June 26, 1929, in Davie County, Mr. Myers was a son of the late Walter and Mollie Potts Myers.

He lived in Davidson County most of his life and retired from Wellington Hall. Mr. Myers was a member of Currytown Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors include wife Marie Norman Myers; sons Danny Lee Myers and Paul Myers, both of Lexington; daughter Janice Lawson, Thomasville; sister Emily Hudson Payne, Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Brown, the Rev. Ralph Byrd and preacher Clyde Akers. Burial, Currytown Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight and at other times at the residence.

Memorials: Hospice of Davidson County, Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293-1941.

 

Virgie Efird Stoner

Virgie Efird Stoner, 71, Salisbury, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of serious illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1929, in Rowan County, Mrs. Stoner, a daughter of the late Delta G. and Ida Herlocker Efird, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She retired as a seamstress from B.B. Walker Shoe Co.

A homemaker, she was a member of West Park Baptist Church, Rockwell.

Her husband, James Ray Stoner, died July 19, 1991.

Survivors include son Tommy Ray Stoner, Spencer; daughters Linda Kay Allman and Janette Yost, both of Salisbury; brother Everette Efird, Salisbury; sisters Selma Hodge, Nellie Apperson, Betty Love and HazelGoodman, all of Rockwell; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, West Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Carver, pastor, and the Rev. Larry Perry. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: West Park Baptist Church, 715 W. Park Drive, Rockwell, NC 28138.
