Monie Crawford Authur, 86, 1615 Sells Road, formerly of Gastonia, died Sunday (May 20, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, Mrs. Authur was a daughter of the late George and Minnie Biggers Crawford. She was a beautician and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bowling Green, S.C.
Survivors include sisters Mable C. Gullick, Baltimore, Md., and Myrtice C. Siler, Salisbury.

Walter ‘Flash’ Brooks
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Thursday for Walter Gwyn “Flash” Brooks, 72, 685 Bostian Road, who died Monday (May 21, 2001) at his home.
Born June 15, 1928, in Iredell County, Mr. Brooks, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Lottie Watkins Brooks, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 50 years and was a member of South China Grove Baptist Church.
A son, Eugene
“Gene” Brooks, died March 29, 1992.
Survivors include wife Almetia Nickolson Brooks; daughter Edie Brooks Jacobs, China Grove; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Nolie Fenters Harris
NEW LONDON — Nolie Mildred Fenters Harris, 91, 40005 U.S. Hwy. 52 N., died Monday (May 21, 2001) at her home.
Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Rose Hill, S.C., Mrs. Harris, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Ellen Williams Fenters, retired as a hosiery inspector from Wiscasset Hosiery Mill.
A member of First Baptist Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher and remained active as long as her health permitted.
Her husband, Richard Paul Harris, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Richard P. Harris Jr., Culpepper, Va., and Thomas W. Harris, Albemarle; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jason Lee and the Rev. Timothy Swaringen. Burial, New London Cemetery.

COOLEEMEE — Jerry Carl Ijames, 63, Hickory Street, died Monday (May 21, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, after a brief illness.
A Davie County native, Mr. Ijames received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force. He formerly worked at Burlington Mills,Cooleemee.
Survivors include daughters Antionette Ijames and Jerri Etta Sherrill, both of Mocksville, Teresa Morrison, Salisbury, and Laura Ann Cherry, Winston-Salem; stepson Roy Edward Wilson, Advance; sisters Alice I. White and Annette I.Cuthbertson, both of Cooleemee; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ola Stricker Schenk
Ola Stricker Schenk, 84, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 22, 2001) at her home after a period of declining health and a month of serious illness.
Born April 17, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs Schenk, a daughter of the late Barry and Fannie Leazer Stricker, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Lutheran Church and WELCA.
Her husband, Arnold Joseph Schenk, died Aug. 3, 2000.
Survivors include son Barry Ward Schenk, Salisbury; daughters Paulette Deal, China Grove, and Sylvia Moore, Salisbury; sisters Ada Hartley and Jean Pinkston, both of Salisbury, and Mary Correll,Landis; and three grandsons.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Salem Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson, former pastor, and the Rev. Tommy Thomas. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

LEXINGTON — Foy Graham Swicegood, 85, Sidney Street, died Monday (May 21, 2001) at Sunbridge Care &Rehabilitation for Lexington.

Mary Hardin Tate
The funeral will be Friday for Mary Hardin Tate, 84, 429 S. Clay St., who died Sunday (May 20, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three weeks of illness.
Born Jan. 2, 1917, in Gastonia, Mrs. Tate was a daughter of the late George Washington and Leola Gill Hardin. She was educated in the Gaston County and Baltimore, Md., schools.
She retired as a cook from Salisbury High School cafeteria. Earlier she was employed by Edgewood Gas Mask Co. and Western Electric Co. in Baltimore, Md.
A member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, she was in the Senior Citizens Club, Spiritual Choir, Faithful Workers and Willing Workers missionary groups, and was an usher and a Sunday school teacher. She was a former member of Rising Star Chapter 540, Court of Calanthe and attended Miller Recreation Nutrition Site.
Her first husband, Phenius Lawrence, died in 1939, and her second husband, Willie B, Tate, died in 1979. A son, Vernon L. “Bobby” Hardin, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters Phyliss A. and Michele D. Tate, both of Salisbury, and Lajuan Tate Chase, Vineland; brother William L. Hardin, Baltimore, Md.; sisters the Rev. Beatrice Walls and the Rev. Blanche Jennings, both of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m., Friday, Gethsemane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James L. Stowe. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 1:30 p.m., Friday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home on South Clay Street.

Jeanie L. Williamson
The funeral is Friday for Jeanie Marie Lewis Williamson, 43, Salisbury, who died Monday (May 21, 2001) at her home.
Born July 27, 1957, in Wayne County, Mich., Mrs. Williamson was a daughter of Charles and Norma Fannon Lewis, Salisbury. She was educated at Churchhill High School, Lavonia, Mich., and attended community college.
She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.
A daughter, Amanda Nicole Williamson, died Sept. 12, 1991.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Melvin Earl Williamson, whom she married April 10, 1991; son Charles Douglas “Charlie” Williamson, of the home; daughter Melinda Marie Steelman, of the home; stepson Jeremy Drew Williamson, Hampton, Tenn.; and sisters Debra Fowler, Granite Quarry, and Karen Brunette, Florida.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Friday, Salisbury National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Lewis, pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the home of her parents, 1802 Whitney Lane.
