the Catawba Celebrity Classic, set June 14-15 at Warrior Golf Club.
Host celebrities will be former National Football
League stars Billy Ray Barnes and Roman Gabriel.
The captain’s-choice format will have each amateur
fivesome playing with a celebrity.
The entry fee of $125 includes a social auction on
Thursday night, green and cart fees, breakfast and dinner on Friday, a golf
shirt, gift package and special contests.
All proceeds will go to the Nazareth Children’s
Home and Catawba College’s athletic program.

SOUTH BOOSTERS: The second annual South Rowan
Boosters Club Golf Tournament will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1 at Warrior.
The entry fee for the captain’s-choice event is
$200 per four-member team. The entry deadline is May 25. The first 32 registered
teams will be accepted.
All proceeds will be used for capital improvements
to athletic facilities at South Rowan High School.
A 2001 Buick Regal, golf trips and golf clubs will
be offered as hole-in-one prizes.

PRO DEBUT: Rockwell’s Karl Mitchell played in his
first pro golf tourney recently, tying for second place in a Triangle Tour event
at Little River in Carthage.
Mitchell, a recent UNC Greensboro graduate with a
straight-A average, shot a 3-under-par 69 and won $450.
Mitchell is a former East Rowan High School athlete
who has been a member of the UNCG team the past four years.

OLDSMOBILE DEADLINE: The entry deadline is Monday
for the Oldsmobile Scramble at Crescent Golf Club.
The tournament, scheduled Saturday, is being held at
Crescent for the second year, and pro Ross Desmond is expecting a full field.
The entry fee is $50 per person, which includes
green and cart fees, a dozen Strata golf balls and a $500 Olds purchase
incentive.

MCCANLESS EVENT: The 37th annual Grady B. McCanless
Memorial Four-Ball has been set at McCanless Golf Club.
Practice rounds will be held June 10-15, followed by
qualifying June 16-21. Matches will be played June 23, 24 and 30 and July 1.
The entry fee of $25 per person for member and $40
for non-members includes green fees and a luncheon on June 30. Cart fees will be
$11 for all rounds.
There will be men’s, women’s and senior
divisions with 144 teams being accepted.

ACES: Joe Lambert scored his seventh hole in one
last Sunday at Kannapolis Country Club. Using a 6-iron, Lambert aced the par-3,
165-yard No. 17 hole. He was playing with Chip Logan, Allen White and Darrell
Perkins.
Reid Hankins aced the par-3, 160-yard No. 6 hole at
the Country Club of Salisbury with a 7-iron. He was playing with Alan Scott,
Victor Wallace and Clyde Terry.
Keith Jordan aced the par-3, 164-yard No. 12 hole at
Rolling Hills Golf Club. He used a 6-iron. Jordan was playing with Lee Wyatt.

JUNIOR CLINICS: McCanless and Rolling Hills will
hold junior clinics next month.
McCanless will hold a three-day clinic on June 4, 6
and 8. There will be two one-hour sessions each day, set for 9 and 10 a.m.
Juniors can sign up in the pro shop for a $15 fee.
McCanless will have junior tourneys on June 14 and
28 and July 12 and 26 with an entry fee of $5 for members and $8 for
non-members. All ages will walk.
A junior clinic has been scheduled June 4 and 6 at
Rolling Hills, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. each day. Fourth- through
eighth-graders are eligible to participate.
The fee is $15 for members and $30 for non-members.

WRESTLING CLUB: The Eastern Rowan Wrestling Club is
sponsoring a captain’s-choice tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at Rolling
Hills.The entry fee is $40 per player.
There will be two divisions — one for golfers who
have won previous tournaments and another for those who have not.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in
each division.

CORBIN LADIES: Wanda Sanders was the low gross
winner in the Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association’s tournament held Tuesday.
Becky Isenhour and Mary Seaford finished second and third, respectively.
Shirley Baucom took low net, with Carla Swanson and
Marie Pugh placing second and third, respectively.
Mary Carter won low putts. Virginia Graves, Ruth
Bowles and Joan Gillespie tied for second.
