Sarah Cody Briggs
RICHFIELD — Sarah Cody Briggs, 86, 40969 Paul’s Crossing Road, died Friday(May 18, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Born Sept. 14, 1914, in Stanly County, Mrs. Briggs was a daughter of the late W.P. and Eva Ann Page Almond. She was retired from Federal Pacific Company, where she was in Assembler Breaker. A member of Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church, she was active in the choir and Senior Citizen’s band.
She was preceded in death by husbands Daniel Cletus Cody and Kenneth W. Briggs.
Survivors include sons Darrell Cody, Gold Hill, Dewayne Cody and Rodney Cody, both of Richfield; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m., Monday at Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jessie Dennis and the Rev. Tony Bowman. Burial, New Bethel Lutheran Church cemetery in Richfield.
Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the home of Rodney Cody, 40866 Paul’s Crossing Road.

KANNAPOLIS — Estelle Phillips Broome, 83, 2602 West “C” St., died Thursday (May 17, 2001) at her home.

Annie Belle Gainey
LANDIS — Annie Belle Joyner Gainey, 79, 609 S. Valley St., died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at her residence after five months of declining health.
Born Jan. 26, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Gainey was a daughter of the late Fred and Dora Honeycutt Joyner. She was educated in the Cabarrus County schools and worked in the spinning and twisting room at Cannon Mills for 37 years before retiring. She was a member of Rogers Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband J.C. Gainey; son Larry Wayne Honeycutt, Daletona, Fla.; stepsons Johnny Stephen Gainey, Kannapolis, and Randy Kirk Gainey, China Grove; brother Ruben Joyner, Rockwell; sisters Jessie Palmer, Tabaccoville, and Ruby Clay, China Grove; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calvin Eugene Griffin
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., — Calvin Eugene Griffin, 68, 3133 Broadway Ave., died Friday (May 18, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1933, in Lancaster County, S.C., Mr. Griffin was a son of the late Raymond and Maggie McCarver Griffin. Educated in the Lancaster County schools, he worked at American Bakeries as a shipping supervisor. He attended a nondenominational church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Locklair Griffin, on April 23, 2001.
Survivors include sons Stevie Locklair, Wichita, Kan., Randy Griffin, Jacksonville, Fla., Calvin Griffin Jr., Sanderson, Fla., Roger Griffin, Salisbury, and Donny Griffin, Kannapolis; daughters Rosey Wright, China Grove, Angie Brown, St. Augustine, Fla., and Sherry Holley, Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters Ann Smith, Salisbury, Minnie McCall, Belmont, and Lelar Grabb, Black Mountain; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m., Tuesday at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Keith Brown. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

MORGANTON — Faye Dean Stacks, 43, 300 Enola Road, died Friday (May 18, 2001) at Grace Hospital, Morganton.
Born August 17, 1957, in Lancaster, S.C., Ms. Stacks was a daughter of Annie Aldridge Stacks and the late Clifford Carl Stacks.

Nellie M. Whitley
CHINA GROVE — Nellie Mecimore Whitley, 79, 122 Third Ave., died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury.
Born April 14, 1922, in Gaston County, Mrs. Whitley was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Bolick Mecimore. She was educated in the Gaston County Schools and was retired from South China Grove Cotton Mill, where she worked in the winder room.
A member of South China Grove Baptist Church, she was a member of Willing Workers Sunday School class and was secretary of Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ephriam Whitley, on May 24, 1994.
Survivors include sons Phillip Whitley, China Grove, and George Whitley, Kannapolis; daughter Linda Newton, China Grove; brothers Claude Mecimore and Edgar Mecimore, both of Charlotte, and Charles Mecimore, Greensboro; sisters Geneva Armstrong, Gastonia, Agnes Mixer, China Grove, Mandie Pruitt, Salisbury, and Christine Harrington, Charlotte; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
