Roy Benjamin Allison

LANDIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Roy Benjamin Allison, 83, 1335 Partee Drive, who died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three months of serious illness.

Born June 16, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Allison, a son of the late George and Nora Long Allison, was a graduate of Aggrey High School, Landis. He was a World War IIveteran.

Retired from Fieldcrest Cannon, he was a member and former steward of Sandy Ridge AMEZion Church and various church organizations. He was also a member of Bennet L.Johnson American Legion Post.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Sandy Ridge AMEZion Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Smith. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

‘Beth’ King Bost

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Thursday for Maribeth “Beth” King Bost, 53, Rockwell, who died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medial Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1947, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mrs. Bost, a daughter of the late Everette and Beatrice Gicking King, was a 1966 graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury.

President of DLB Trucking, she was a member of Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ and a former Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Order of the Easter Star Chapter 317 and director of the Rockwell Civic Girls Softball League.

Survivors include husband Donald Lynn Bost, whom she married March 29, 1970; sons Paul Everette Bost and Donald Lynn Bost Jr., both of Rockwell; daughter Sharon Bost Porozynski, of the home; brothers Edward King, Winston-Salem, Eugene King, Lexington, and Charles King, Salisbury; sister Beatrice K. Goodnight, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Jim Staunton, pastor, Ursinus United Church of Christ. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Armer Collins Evans

KANNAPOLIS — Armer Collins Evans, 88, formerly of 2310 Woodsdale St., died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Universal Health Care,Concord, after three years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Winter Skye Hogue

KANNAPOLIS — Winter Skye Hogue, 3-year-old daughter of Delbert and Tracy Redd Hogue, 8855 Cloverfield Drive, died Monday (May 14, 2001) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The child was born Dec. 3, 1997, in Cabarrus County.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brother Dylan Ray Hogue, of the home; grandparents Sandra A. Collins, Locust, Jerri L. Hogue and Harry Thompson, both of West Virginia, and Benjamin Andrew Redd, Oklahoma.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.Lowell McNaney. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Van ‘Jr.’ Holshouser Jr.

ROCKWELL — Van Cletus “Jr.” Holshouser Jr., 74, Rockwell, died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born May 3, 1927, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Holshouser was a son of the late Van Cletus and Mabel Hoffner Holshouser. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had attended Rockwell High School. A veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Former owner of Holshouser’s Upholstery, he retired from Fiber Industries, now Kosa. He also owned and operated Holshouser’s Market. He was a Lutheran.

His wife, Marion Edwards Holshouser, died June 14, 1987.

Survivors include sons Rodney L. Holshouser, Lexington, Kevin E. Holshouser, Rockwell, and Kyle V. Holshouser, Salisbury; daughters Linda H. Potts, Charlotte, and Toni H. Crawford, Gastonia; brothers B.K. Holshouser, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bill Holshouser, Rockwell, and Charles L. Holshouser, Greenville; sister Faye Corl and Barbara Whitley, both of Rockwell, and Betty Freeman, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, pastor. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Etta Mae Hudson Kirk

Etta Mae Hudson Kirk, 81, formerly of Summitt Avenue, died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation after two years of declining health.

Born July 17, 1919, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kirk was a daughter of the late Joseph Washington and Nora Etta Hall Hudson. She was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School, attended cosmetology school in Charlotte and graduated from Salisbury Business College, Salisbury.

Formerly employed at her father’s store, J.W. Hudson &Son in Granite Quarry, she later was business manager at Rowan Public Library for 25 years.

An active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, she was on the administrative board, sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Her husband, Arnold Burtis Cloy Kirk Jr., died Dec. 20, 1980.

Survivors include sister Louise Parnell, Salisbury; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by the Rev. Bill Hoyle. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home.

‘Joe Ann’ Klein

The funeral will be Thursday for Elizabeth Hux “Joe Ann” Klein, 76, Clemmons, formerly of Salisbury, who died Monday (May 14, 2001) at The Oaks of Forsyth, Winston-Salem.

Born Feb. 26, 1925, in Columbus, Miss., Mrs. Klein, a daughter of the late John and Betty Lee Hux, was educated in the Columbus, Miss., schools.

Employed by the U.S. State Department’s Agency for International Development in Washington,D.C., for 33 years, she retired June 30, 1976. She was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Her husband, Francis Paul “Fritz” Klein, died Feb. 20, 1994.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Neill Shaw, pastor, Milford Hills United Methodist Church.

Visitation: None.

Benjamin ‘Bud’ Liles

ALBEMARLE — Benjamin “Bud” Liles, 67, 321 Sides St., died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at Britthaven-Piedmont Nursing Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Gatewood Station AME Zion Church. Burial, church cemetery.

The family will be at the home on Sides Street.

LEXINGTON — Creola McBride Myers, 73, Crews Lake Road, died Monday (May 14, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Crews Lake Road.

James Gordon Watts

CHINA GROVE — James Gordon “Apple Man”Watts, 85, 309 S.Myrtle St., died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Sunset Beach.

Born April 22, 1916, in Wilkes County, Mr. Watts was a son of the late William Dodson and Lillie Gentle Watts. He retired from Cannon Mills after 39 years.

A son,James Filmore Watts, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Hattie Lee McCall Watts; daughters Jean Chandler, Dean Shuffler, Barbara Bayne and Katherine Bayne; grandson Michael Self, reared in the home; nine other grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Ted Davis.

Visitation: None.

ALBEMARLE — Flave Morgan Whitley, 82, 608 Yadkin St., died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.

Dorothy Rose Williams

MOCKSVILLE — Dorothy Rose Williams, 79, U.S. Hwy 158 E., died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at her home.

Born Nov. 10, 1921, in Davie County, Miss Williams, a daughter of the late Roy Everette and Lovie Ellis Williams, retired from AT&T after 30 years.

A member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school in the children’s department and was a member of the Adult Women’s Class. She had also served on many church committees.

Survivors include brothers Ellis Harding Williams, Winston-Salem, and Nathan Eugene Williams, Rock Hill, S.C.; and sisters Inez and Nellie Williams, both of the home, and Frances W. Caudle, Winston-Salem.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Smith Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert McLawhorn and the Rev. Neil Wilcox. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.
