Sandra C. Benfield
Sandra Lane Chapman Benfield, 58, 920 Leach Road, died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Oct. 15, 1942, in Rowan County, Mrs. Benfield was a daughter of Grace Rollins Chapman, Salisbury, and the late Samuel F. Chapman. She was educated in the Rowan County schools. A mechanical engineering secretary, she was a member of Landis Baptist Church and the Jessie Stirewalt Circle.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband G. Reid Benfield; daughters Traci Graham and Jill Hubbard, both of Salisbury, and Allison Kaylor, Carey; brother Dr. Gary D. Chapman, Winston-Salem; and one grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Landis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt, Dr. Gary Chapman and the Rev. Richard Horne. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the church. At other times the family will be at the home on Leach Road.

Willie ‘Buck’ Cathcart
GASTONIA — Willie Lee “Buck” Cathcart, 76, 1020 Newcastle Road, died Friday (May 11, 2001) at his home.
A native of York County, S.C., Mr. Cathcart was a son of the late Charlie and Lessie Murray Cathcart. He was a maintenance technician. He was a member of Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church, where he was on the steward board, was an arch leader and sang in the Hymn Choir. A member of Armstrong Temple 41 and St. Luke Lodge 217, he was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include wife of 53 years Louise Glenn Cathcart; daughters Celeste Cathcart, of the home, Joan C. Reid, Jane C. Porter, Vanessa C. Friday and Sirritta C. Nash, all of Gastonia; sons Phillip and Clement Cathcart, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Steven Cathcart, Gastonia; sister Magdelene Fox, Salisbury; brothers James R. Cathcart, Greensboro, and J.W. Cathcart, China Grove; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Sandra Sistare. Burial, church cemetery.

Ettie Virginia Hair
SPENCER —Ettie Virginia Hair, 93, formerly of Spencer, died Friday (May 11, 2001) at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Lewes, Del.
Born Feb. 26, 1908, in Roebuck, S.C., Mrs. Hair was a daughter of the late Patrick Clayton and Katherine Isabella Riddle Caldwell. She lived in Spencer from 1937 until she moved to Delaware in 1988 to be with her daughter, Juanita H. Cole, Millville, Del.
She had worked at Norman’s Draperies, Salisbury, and Becky Hinkle’s Fabric Shop. She had been president of the Spencer Schools PTA, Rowan PTA and the Spencer High School Band Association.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and superintendent of the Sunday school junior department for over 30 years. She also led the BYPU youth group and was active in the adult Sunday school classes and circles of the church.
Her husband, Heyward Hayne Hair, died in 1970, and a son, Hayne Caldwell Hair, died in 1983.
Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include son Ralph Hair, Salisbury; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev.Franklin Myers, pastor, First Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

KANNAPOLIS — Robert Wayne Mason, 30, Kannapolis, died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born May 1, 1971, in Hialeah, Fla., Mr. Mason was a son of Patti Hummel Klicka, Salisbury, and David A. Mason, Orange Lake, Fla. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and was employed in construction.
Survivors include stepfather Zdenek Klicka, Salisbury; brothers David J. Mason, Kannapolis, and Nicholas Daniel Rawlings, Orange Lake, Fla.; sisters Dori Presnell-Facemyer and Sadie Michele Presnell, both of Salisbury; grandfather Randy Hummel, Spokane, Wash.; grandmother Hilda L. Mason, Orange Lake, Fla.; and great-grandmothers Helen Steffens, Ocala, Fla., and Alice Hummel, Spokane, Wash.

Marvin Adeauris “A.D” McIntyre, 20, 210 Henderlite St., died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 3, 1981, in Salisbury, Mr. McIntyre, a son of Henry and Beverly McIntyre Allen, Salisbury, attended North Rowan High School, Spencer. He was last employed at Bojangles Restaurant.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include fiancee Jakia Kelly, Salisbury; paternal grandparents George and Montrose Allen, Salisbury; maternal grandmother Ruth Swann Carr, Salisbury; daughter Makyia McIntyre, Salisbury; brothers Darren Allen, Charlotte, and Tommie and Michael Allen, both of Salisbury; and sisters Kenya Allen, Raleigh, and Naomi Kinard, Marietta, Ga.
