Mary Ann Albrecht

HENRIETTA, Texas — Mary Ann Young Johnson Albrecht, 56, Henrietta, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at a Wichita Falls, Texas hospital.

Born Feb. 19, 1945, in Ringold, Texas, Mrs. Albrecht was a daughter of Howard and Jewell Duewall Young. She married Greg Albrecht Dec. 23, 1989, in Salisbury, N.C., and was a teacher.

Survivors include her husband of Woodleaf, N.C.; daughter Rebecca Fletcher, Henrietta; son Bill Johnson, Huntsville; brother Doug Young, Wichita Falls; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10 this morning at First United Methodist Church, Henrietta.

Davis Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

 

Rebecca Y. Allen

Rebecca Yancey Allen, 88, formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (May 11, 2001) at the Brunswick Cove Nursing Home, Leland N.C.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Boyce Lee Griffin

NEW LONDON — Boyce Lee Griffin, 84, 33111 Austin Road, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center, Albemarle.

Born May 6, 1917, in Union County, Mr. Griffin, a son of the late Lex C. and Dora Smith Griffin, was a retired postal rural carrier. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of DAV and VFW.

He was a member of New London United Methodist Church and was a Mason, a member of Stanly Lodge 348 and a 32nd degree Scottish Mason. He was former secretary and treasurer of United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include wife Lucille Dry Griffin; son Robert Lee Griffin, Bethany Beach, Del.; daughters Katherine M. Griffin, Boston, Mass., and Dr. Pamela Griffin Smith, Baltimore, Md.; brothers J. Carroll Griffin, Norwood, and Ben E. Griffin, New London; sister Margaret Brawley, Wilmington, Del.; and four grandsons.

Services: Memorial, 11 this morning, Stanly Funeral Home chapel, Albemarle.

Visitation: 10-11 this morning at the funeral home.

Matthew Brandon Hill

CHINA GROVE — Matthew Shelby Brandon Hill, 22, 1610 Daugherty Road, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born July 4, 1978, in Nashville, Tenn., Mr. Hill was the son of Doug Hill, Gallatin, Tenn., and the late Pamela Webb Hill. He was educated in the Gallatin schools and was a carpenter. He was a Baptist.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include brother Kevin Hill, Salisbury; sister Penny Shuffler,China Grove; half sisters Michelle and Britney Hill, both of Nashville, Tenn.; grandfather Barnes Webb, Nashville, Tenn.; grandmothers Lena Hill, Nashville, Tenn., and Nadine Webb Murfes, Murfeesboro, Tenn.

Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Monday, West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt.

Visitation: None.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Edward S. Hunt Jr.

LEXINGTON — Edward S. Hunt Jr., 73, of Abbotts Avenue, died Thursday (May 10, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of six years.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wade Childress. Burial, Canaan United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Canaan United Methodist Church, 1760 Shady Grove Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

 

Hulen Ray Leonard

LEXINGTON — Hulen Ray Leonard, 66, of Tussey St., died Thursday (May 10, 2001) after an illness of one year.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Pope. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of son Keven Leonard, N. County Home Road.

 

Esther E. Phillips

ALBEMARLE — Esther Earnhardt Phillips, 88, 708 Salisbury Ave., died Thursday (May 10, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 today, Stanly Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Uwharrie United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will be at the home of daughter Shirley P. Smith, 1489 Riley St., Albemarle.

Memorials: Northside Baptist Church, 617 Laurel St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
