Nellie D. Allen

LEXINGTON — Nellie Irene Dryman Allen, 69, Knollwood Avenue, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at her home.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Victory Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Knollwood Avenue.

 

 

Mary Ruth Basinger

The funeral will be Friday for Mary Ruth Rumple Basinger, 63, 1820 Grace Church Road, who died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at her home.

Born March 27, 1938, in Cleveland, Mrs. Basin-ger was a daughter of the late Erskine Lawson and Ruth Bollinger Rumple. She retired from CannonMills sheet department in 1997 after 33 years and was employed by Jeter’s Restaurant for the last 11 years.

She played for the Cannon Mills ladies softball team.

Her husband, George Adam Basinger, died in 1997.

Survivors include son Charles E. Basinger, China Grove; daughter Vickie Ruth B. Logan, Salisbury; sisters Ida Marie Freeland, Newport, Tenn., and Joyce L. Cruey, Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev.George Bradshaw. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Grace Church Road.

 

William ‘Buck’ Coe

LEXINGTON — William Franklin “Buck” Coe, 76, 520 Coe Road, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001).

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at 305 BigJohn Road, off Kindley Road, Thomasville.

 

Maggie Wood Gaither

CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Saturday for Maggie Wood Gaither, 87, 504 E. Main St., who died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home after 2 1/2 years of declining health.

Born April 18, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Gaither, a daughter of the late John and Mary Luckey Wood, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She retired as a custodian from West Rowan Junior High School. She was a Presbyterian.

Her husband, Lonnie Gaither, died Sept. 10, 1963.

Survivors include sons Lonnie Gaither Jr., Cleveland, and William Gaither, Durham; daughters Emma Gaither and Betty Harmon, both of Columbia, S.C., Margo Gaither, Cleveland, and Brenda Avery, Salisbury; granddaughter reared in the home Stephanie Gaither, Durham; nine other grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Knox. Burial, Allen’s Temple Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Ross ‘Jack’ Garrison Jr.

Ross Walter “Jack” Garrison Jr., 88, Trinity Oaks of Salisbury, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at the retirement home.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Pauline R. Hedrick

ALBEMARLE — Pauline Rhodes Hedrick, 73, 714 Wiscassett St., died Tuesday (May 8, 2001).

Services: 3 today, Oak Grove Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial,Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Stanly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Lewis ‘Chick’ Howard

MOORESVILLE — Lewis Ray “Chick” Howard, 52, Pitt School Road, Concord, a native of Mooresville, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hopewell Baptist Church, Davidson. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Memorials: Fisher Street Baptist Church, Building Fund, 308 Fisher St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

 

Harry T. Livengood

Harry Theodare Livengood, 81, Dalton, Ga., formerly of Rowan County, died Monday (May 7, 2001) at Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Born in Rowan County, Mr. Livengood was a son of the late Zeb P. and Addie McIntyre Livengood. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include brothers Fletcher Livengood, Kannapolis, and Thomas Livengood, Las Vegas, Nev.; and sister Edna Shoemaker, Mooresville.

The body was cremated. No service or visitation is planned.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

C. ‘Smokey’ Miller

ROCKWELL — Charles Carey “Smokey” Miller, 82, Rockwell, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Brandon Payne

KANNAPOLIS — Marshall Brandon Payne, 84, 604 Willow Drive, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four years of declining health and three months of serious illness.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Princess Pulliam

Princess Katelyn Leanne Pulliam, 3-month-old daughter of Keith and Carry Margeson Pulliam, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

The infant was born Jan. 23, 2001, in Rowan County.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include half brother Joshua Wayne Brewer, Stanly County; paternal grandparents James Pulliam and Charlotte Saxon, both of Salisbury; paternal stepgrandfather Bill Saxon, Salisbury; paternal great-grandfather Charles Pitts, Granite City, Ill.; maternal grandparents Mark Margeson and Becky Johnston, both of Kannapolis; paternal stepgrandparents Susan Margeson and James Johnston, both of Kannapolis; and maternal great-grandmother Yvonne Margeson, Wayne, N.Y.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. BillGodair, pastor, Cornerstone Church.

Visitation: 930-10:30 a.m. Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home.

 

Lois Kerns Starling

ALBEMARLE — Lois Kerns Starling, 82, 34849 Palestine Road, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Friday, HartsellFuneral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Palestine Road.

 

Alma ‘Bunch’ Wright

Alma “Bunch” Wright, 93, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Center.

BornSept. 21, 1907, in Wilkes County, Miss Wright was a daughter of the late Robert Vance and Retha Ray Wright. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Edgewood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rex Shumate. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, North Wilkesboro.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.
