Emily A. Blackwood

MOCKSVILLE — Emily Allgood Blackwood, 81, South Salisbury Street, died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Aug. 16, 1919, in Forsyth County, Mrs. Blackwood was a daughter of the late C.R. and Beulah Lowder Allgood. She was a 1937 graduate of Clemmons High School. Retired after 40 years as a dental assistant, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Everette LawrenceBlackwood, died in 1981; a son, Charles David Blackwood, died in 1987; and a daughter, Lynn Blackwood, died in 1998.

Survivors include daughter Ann Schloeman, Winter Spring, Fla.; brother Ray Allgood, Clemmons; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev.Neal Carter.Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: First Presbyterian Church, 261 S. Main St., Mocksville, NC 27028.

 

Daisy S. Earnhardt

Daisy Stauber Earnhardt, 84, Salisbury, died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Carl ‘Gene’ Bunton

TROUTMAN — Carl “Gene” Eugene Bunton, 69, Flower House Loop, brother of Louise Hager, Mooresville, died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Florence Foglia Hill

BADIN — Florence Foglia Hill, 73, 114 ValleyDrive, died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at her home.

Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Stanly County, Mrs. Hill was a daughter of the late Victor and Julia Martello Foglia. She was a member of Palmerville Baptist Church, New London, for 52 years. She had retired as a secretary from Stanly County government.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Robert Calvin Hill; sons Robert Glenn Hill, Davidson, and Gregory Fraser Hill, Albemarle; brother Victor Foglia, Badin; sisters Ruby F. Crisco, Louise F. Hill and Zora F. Efird, all of Albemarle; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Palmerville Baptist Church, New London, conducted by the Rev. Gary Pinion and the Rev. Claud Dick. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Edgar ‘Ed’ Leroy Hodge

Edgar “Ed” Leroy Hodge, 88, 727 Maupin Ave., died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1912, in Granite Quarry, Mr. Hodge was a son of the late George A. and Ethel Morris Hodge. He was a graduate of Boyden High School. A World War IIveteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a flight instructor. He had retired fromB.F. Goodrich and Mickle Tire Co.

His wife, Emily Beard Hodge, died April 3, 1964 , and a son , Jerry L. Hodge, died in 1977.

Survivors include sons George R. Hodge, Spartanburg, S.C., and Michael D. Hodge, Lexington; daughter Emily Hodge Heck, Charlotte; a sister-in-law reared in the home, Jane B. Wilson, Thomasville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

Mary W. Huneycutt

ALBEMARLE — Mary Whitley Huneycutt, 96, formerly of 630 Salisbury Ave., died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Congregational Christian Church. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial at Poplin’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Kathleen H. Goins, 520 Graham St.

Alex ‘Ike’ Napier

ALBEMARLE — Alex Isaac “Ike” Napier, 75, 32427-B Highway 740, died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Second Street Presbyterian Church. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory. Masonic rites by Albemarle Masonic Lodge 703.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Margaret L. Trembley

Margaret Long Trembley, 93, formerly of Salisbury, died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis.

Born Sept. 2, 1907, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Trembley was a daughter of the late David H. and Ida Walter Long. Retired from Cannon Mills Co.’s sewing room, she was a member of Organ Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tom Leazer and Lewis Trembley.

Survivors include brother Frank C. Long, Kannapolis; and sisters Alice Deal and Lula Bost, both of Kannapolis.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home,Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev.John Pless. Burial, Organ Lutheran Church cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of niece Judy Compton, 812 S. Ridge Ave., Kannapolis.

 

Virginia W. Williams

SPENCER — Virginia Weaver Williams, 71, Spencer, died Monday (May 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
