Charles Lynn Beck
BURLINGTON — Charles Lynn Beck, 73, 322 Caswell
St., died Friday (May 4, 2001) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, after
several years of failing health and eight weeks of critical illness.
Born in Rowan County, he was the son of the late
Charlie A. and Pearl Henley Beck. He was employed as a meat cutter with A&P
for more than 20 years. A member of the American Legion, he was a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
Survivors include wife Virginia Elizabeth Snider
Beck; daughters Denise Cashion, Rock Hill, S.C., and Lynne Hutlemyer, Alamance;
son Charles Joseph “Joey” Beck, Haw River; sisters Jewell “Ruby” Alley
and Mrs. Phil Barber, both of Salisbury; brother E.J. Beck, Greensboro; and six
grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Alamance Memorial Park,
led by the Rev. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God.
Visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lowe
Funeral Home and Crematory.
Claude White Bost
The funeral will be Sunday for Claude White Bost,
86, Salisbury, who died Thursday (May 3, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 2, 1914, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Bost
was a son of the late George Eli Cope and Nancy Alice Hoffner Bost. He was a
1933 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School.
Mr. Bost had worked at Erlanger Mills, Lexington,
and Bambi Bakery. He also made parachutes for the U.S. government. He was
employed at the N.C. Weight Station in the license and theft department for 23
years before retiring in 1976. He also drove a cab.
A member of Organ Lutheran Church, he was sexton
for three years and a Sunday school teacher for 45 years. He made wine for
Communion and served as a funeral usher. He was also a member of the Lutheran
Men and the church’s senior citizens group, which named him Senior Citizen of
the Year.
Mr. Bost was a charter member of the Rockwell
Lions Club, where he was a past president and secretary. He received the Jack
Stickley and Melvin Jones Award.
He also worked with the Rowan Council for the
Blind. A volunteer at Hefner VA Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity, he was
a member of the Rowan County Peace Officer Association.
A daughter, Billie M. Hall, died Feb. 24, 2000.
Survivors include wife Margaret Everhart Bost,
whom he married Nov. 12, 1949; sons Charles Robert “Bob” Bost, Anderson,
S.C., and James Franklin Bost, Spencer; daughters Phyllis Mize, Winston, Ga.,
Peggy B. Butler, Rockwell, and Debra B. Snider, of the home; sister Esther
Trexler, Albemarle; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Organ Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. John E. Pless. Rockwell Lions Club will be seated as a
group. Burial, church cemetery.

Wyatt Floyd Graham
MOUNT ULLA — The funeral will be Sunday for
Wyatt Floyd Graham, 60, 650 Graham Road, who died Thursday (May 3, 2001) at his
home.
Born Aug. 6, 1940, in Iredell County, Mr. Graham
was a son of the late Emery Knox and Rebecca McDaniel Graham. A graduate of
Mount Ulla High School, he was a dairy farmer and a member of Thyatira
Presbyterian Church, Mill Bridge.
Survivors include wife Carolyn Hall Graham; son
Wyatt Graham Jr., Mount Ulla; daughter Barbara “B.J.” Owen, Mount Ulla;
brother E.K.Graham Jr., Mount Ulla; sisters Rebecca Morrison, China Grove, Annie
Rowles, Fredricksburg, Va., and Fannie Mae Parker, Richfield; and two
grandchildren.

LEXINGTON — Mabel P. Lookabill, 79, Parks Road,

health.

Benjamin McLendon
Benjamin W. McLendon, 59, 1922 Savannah St.,
Washington, D.C., died April 28, 2001, at the Greater Southeast Community
Hospital in Washington, D.C.
He was born July 13, 1941, in Salisbury, son of
the late Benjamin and Ethel Smith McLendon. A graduate of J.C. Price High
School, he was an orthopedic technician.
Survivors include sons Mark William Blar,
Salisbury, and Benjamin McLendon Jr., Washington, D.C.; brother Darryl McLendon,
Washington D.C.; sister Gail McLendon, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Cecil ‘Pete’ Moore
The funeral will be Sunday for Cecil Lawson
“Pete” Moore, 81, Salisbury, who died Friday (May 4, 2001) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center.
Born Feb. 29, 1920, Mr. Moore was a son of the
late Grady P. and Mayme Robinson Moore. Educated in the Forest City schools, he
was a graduate of Cool Springs High School. He had retired in 1981 as
superintendent of Delta Thread Co. He was a member of First United Methodist
Church and its Golden Rule Forum Class.
His wife, Marilyn White Moore, died July 21,
1999.
Survivors include son Grady Phillip Moore,
Marietta, Ga.; daughters Marilyn Cecilia Summer, Jacksonville, Fla., and Emily
Jan Moore, Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters Dorothy Moore and Elizabeth Vassey, both of
Forest City, and Virginia Smith, Charlotte; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
