Willie Ray Andrews

ALBEMARLE — Willie Ray Andrews, 77, 1233 Columbus St., died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at Hartsell Funeral Home. Burial was at National Cemetery, VA site, Salisbury. Albemarle-Stanly County DAV performed military rites.

The family will be at the home of sister Helen Furr, 1300 Columbus St., Albemarle.

 

Laurence J. Bowles

MOCKSVILLE — Laurence Junior Bowles, 76, U.S. Highway 158, died Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Dec. 8, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Bowles was a son of the late Frank S. and Lenora Whitaker Bowles. He was a member of Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Ollie McLemore Bowles; son Larry G. Bowles, Mocksville; and brother John Lee Bowles, Mocksville.

Services:Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Forest Hills Memorial Park, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. John Lee.

Visitation: None. The body may be viewed after 12 today at Davie Funeral Service.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Pearline Boyd

CHINA GROVE — Pearline Watts Boyd, 82, formerly of 5877 Gold Fish Road, died Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis.

Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

Billy Eugene Carter

Billy Eugene Carter, 67, Salisbury, died Thursday (May 3, 2001) at his home.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

Donald ‘Don’ Corry

Donald “Don” Lewis Corry, 46, 702 S. Rowan Ave., died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 5, 1955, in Cherryville, Mr. Corry was a son of Deloise Corry Griggs, Cherryville. He was a 1976 graduate of Cherryville High School and attended Tacoa Falls Institute, Cleveland Tech and Gaston College.

He had worked in the Food Lion warehouse and at Freightliner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include companion Ethelene Phillips, Spencer; brothers Jack, Terry and David Corry and TonyGriggs, all of Cherryville, and Alan Griggs, Lincolnton; and sisters Myra Corry, Gastonia, Shona Corry, Clairemont, Millette Campbell, Lawndale, and Payton Griggs, Cherryville.

The family will be at the home on South Rowan Avenue.

Ruth Evelyn Holder

LEXINGTON —Ruth Evelyn Carter Holder, 69, Burbank Drive, died Wednesday (May 2, 2001) sat Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Burbank Drive.

 

Tony Dale Kimmer

MOCKSVILLE — Tony Dale Kimmer, 44, Milling Road, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Born Dec. 3, 1956, in Davie County, Mr. Kimmer was a son of Bill and Mary R. Simpson Kimmer, Mocksville. He was a Baptist.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Janice Whitesides Kimmer; sons Marty, Matthew and Michael Kimmer, all of Mocksville; daughters Candice, Carrie, Cayle, Carmen and Charity, all of Mocksville, Crystal Mayhew, Cooleemee, and Carla Kimmer, Salisbury; brother Terry Kimmer,Mocksville; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Davie Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Byerly. Burial, West Yadkin Assembly of God cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Henry Louis Lowder

ALBEMARLE — Henry Louis Lowder, 74, 529 S. Third St., died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.

Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, First Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Colson.

Visitation: None.

Ruth Sharpe Manly

MISENHEIMER — Ruth Sharpe Manly, 80, 48236 Holt Drive, died Monday (April 30, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Born Nov. 25, 1920, in Dot, Okla., Mrs. Manly was a daughter of the late Isaac Hayne and Sudie Mae Cleere Sharpe. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Dr. J.O. Manly, died Jan. 20, 1996.

Survivors include sons Philip Manly, Misenheimer, and Steven Manly, Fairport, N.Y.; daughter Susan P. Manly, Northford, Conn.; and three grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Stanly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Phillip A. Pharr. Burial, New London Cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James Antoine Price

James Antoine Price, 20, 2726 Goodnight Road, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 28, 1980, in Rowan County, Mr. Price was a son of Deborah Price Ayala and James LeroyGraham, both of Salisbury. He was educated at West Rowan High School and was a graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He was last employed at Kentucky Fried Chicken and attended Miller’s Chapel AMEZion Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include fiancee Shanda Horne, Salisbury; maternal grandmother Rosie Patterson, Salisbury; paternal grandmother Lula Mae Massey, Salisbury; paternal grandfather James Graham, Kannapolis; brother Josha Corry, Warrenton, Va.; sisters Ternisha Charleston, La Trece Kelly and TerriCharleston, all of Salisbury, and Vanessa Corry and Syretta Corry, both of Warrenton, Va.; and stepfathers Gabriel Ayala, Salisbury, and Terry Charleston, Granite Quarry.

Beverly Searles Ross

CHINA GROVE — Beverly Searles Ross, 54, 714 S. Franklin St., died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at her home.

Born Oct. 8, 1946, in Fredericksburg, Va., Mrs. Ross, a daughter of the late Aurelius and Lottie Stephens Searles, was educated in the Virginia schools. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include companion Charles Foster, China Grove; son Jeff Walker, Spotsylvania,Va.; daughter Rebecca Walker, with whom she made her home; and three grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. KristenLassiter.

Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on South Franklin Street.

 

Otto ‘O.J.’ Brinkley Jr.

The funeral is today for Otto Jacob “O.J.” Brinkley Jr., 77, Salisbury, who died Monday (April 30, 2001) at his home.

Born July 16, 1923, in Forsyth County, Mr. Brinkley, a son of the late Otto Jacob and Laura Victoria Edwards Brinkley, was educated in the Rowan County schools. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army’s 439th Engineering Co.

He retired as a shift foreman from North Carolina Finishing Co. after 44 years. A member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, he was active in all phases of the church. He was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the Raymond Gobble Sunday school class. He was also involved with North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief and the Baptist Men.

Mr. Brinkley volunteered withMeals On Wheels, Miller Ferry Fire Department and Habitat For Humanity.

Survivors include wife of 55 years, Flora Alice Brinkley, whom he married April 20, 1946; sons Preston Brinkley, Salisbury, Marvin Brinkley, Belleville, Ill., andMel Brinkley, Greensboro; daughter Margie Hillard, Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers Richard and Ted Brinkley, both of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 today, Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley, pastor, and the Rev. David Blanton, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, family plot in church cemetery. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

At other times, the family will be at the home.

Margie Owens Carrick

THOMASVILLE — Margie Velna Owens Carrick, 86, Thomasville, died Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Salisbury, after eight months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

BornSept, 28, 1914, in Davidson County, Mrs. Carrick, a daughter of the late Challie Lee and Lena Owens Hoffner, was educated in the Davidson County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury.

Survivors include son Duane Carrick, Salisbury; brothers Curtis “Bud” Hoffner, Salisbury, and Ernest Hoffner, Gold Hill; sisters Mary Jane Ward, Helen Stiller and Annie Lee Hall, all of Salisbury, Edna Mahaley, Kernersville, and Jessie Burrage, Arlean Morgan, Johnnie Earnhardt and Jean Brown, all of Richfield; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.At other times the family will be at the home of “Bud” Hoffner, Bringle Ferry Road.

Sherry Efird Rumple, 44, Salisbury, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at her home.
