Taking precautions after a threatening note was found on a hall floor one week ago, Southeast Middle School is now asking students to leave book bags, bulky coats and unnecessary books at home.
Staff at the new school also will search lockers at random, according to a note children took home to parents Thursday afternoon.
“This week has been a difficult one for everyone at Southeast Middle,” the note reads. “Our school has been upset by the irresponsible actions of a very few students.”
Principal Dr. Ron Turbyfill said five students have been suspended for various acts. Some of them also face criminal charges.
This week, the school has checked students with metal detectors before classes. Staff searched all 1,000 lockers on Tuesday. They found no weapons or other illegal items, Turbyfill said.
