Kindergarteners, first-graders and
second-graders at Dole Elementary School went back to a time before they were
born.
Decked out in rolled-up blue jeans
and white T-shirts, poodle skirts and ponytails, they danced to the “Twist”
and other ’50s favorites.
Elvis impersonator John Yates sang
“Blue Suede Shoes.”
“It was a great learning
experience for the students to learn about music that their parents loved and
danced to as teenagers,” music teacher Connie Burleson said. “They learned
that the beat was very dominant and steady and this made people want to dance.”
The school’s chorus opened a show
in the gymnasium with “Born to Make Music” and “On with the Show.”
Speech tutor Ann Perry made
life-size props: Elvis, Chubby Checker, a Cadillac, a jukebox, ice cream
sundaes, 45 records and poodle skirts.
