A student at Knollwood Elementary School will face a long-term suspension because of a note threatening a list of students.
Staff found the note early this week. Dr. Kenny Isenhour, Knollwood’s principal, sent letters home Wednesday with students to let parents know that sheriff’s deputies will greet students at the entrance today, and students will conduct a safety drill. Metal detectors will not be used.
“I had to take it seriously even though we didn’t think (the student) would or was capable of doing it,” he said. “I felt it was a student copying what an older student was reported of doing. At no time did we think it was real, but we had to act like it was.
“What I’m having here is the same thing a lot of schools are having to deal with — younger students copying older ones.”
Also Tuesday, someone wrote “a bomb threat ... on the wall in the sixth grade boy’s bathroom,” according to a brief statement from the China Grove Police Department.
Though they consider the incident a “practical joke,” police and school officials are investigating “to ensure the safety of the students,” police said this morning.
