Coed cheerleaders

SALISBURY POST

Regarding the March 21 letter on co-ed cheerleaders:

Kimberly Mushala, a ’93-’94 cheerleader at South Rowan, clarified the March 13 article which said the South Rowan squad was the first to have male cheerleaders. Kimberly said that her ’93-’94 squad had male cheerleaders, but she didn’t know if they were the first.

Well, the’79-’80 cheerleading squad at South Rowan also had male cheerleaders. I know because I’m a ’80 graduate of South, and several of the guys on the squad were good friends of mine, and they also have their pictures in the ’80 yearbook. I don’t know if the class of ’80 was even the first at South to have co-ed cheerleaders.

I just know that it was earlier than the other squads mentioned in the past articles.
