Born May 11, 1954, in Rowan County, Miss Connell was a daughter of Olin M. Connell and the late Bessie M. Connell. She was a seamstress for B.F. Manufacturing and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include brothers Ray “Buck” and R.J. Connell, both of
Cooleemee; and sisters Brenda Connell, Mocksville, Paulette Connell, Cooleemee, and Dianne Waller, Salisbury.
Services were held 11 this morning at Davie Funeral Service chapel, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Cox and the Rev. Shelby
Harbour. Burial was at Rowan Memorial Park,Salisbury.

Robert D. Lambert Jr.
CONCORD —The funeral will be Wednesday for Robert Dean Lambert Jr., 36, who died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 4, 1964, in Concord, Mr. Lambert was the son of Robert Dean and Gail Lambert, both of Salisbury. He was president of Lambert & Sons, Inc.

Sue S. Massey
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Sue S. Massey, 83, 2405 Brookview Ave., who died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 8, 1917, in Madison,Ga., Mrs. Massey, a daughter of the late Tyke and Cassie Bullock Strickland, was educated in the Madison County, Ga., schools. She had retired from Cannon Mills card room after 15 years with the company.
Her husband, Loron Massey, died in 1989.
Survivors include son Randy Massey, Kannapolis; sister Junelle Owens, Kannapolis; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

STONY POINT — Joyce Lee White Overcash, 56, 757 Hill Farm Road, formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday (March 26, 2001) at her home.
Born Sept. 7, 1944, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Overcash was a daughter of the late Gilbert Lee and Pinkey Lee Gentry
Munday. She was employed at Phil’s Food Mart, Statesville.
A son, Ricky Lee Overcash, preceded her in death.

CLEVELAND —Thelma Buchanan Smoot, 87, Maple Street, did Sunday (March 25, 2001) at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Polo, Mo., Mrs. Smoot was a daughter of the late Frank and Maggie Gingrich Buchanan. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cleveland.
Her husband, Cleo C.Smoot, preceded her in death.

Onancock,Va.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

MOORESVILLE — The funeral will be Wednesday for Violet Buff Thompson, 84, 3235 Deal Road, who died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Transitional Health
Services,Kannapolis, after two months of serious illness.
Born Sept. 2, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Thompson, a daughter of the late Sanford and Lonie Mull Buff, retired from Cannon Mills, No. 2 weave room.
She was the oldest charter member of God’s Church of Faith, where she was corporate secretary, taught the Senior Ladies Sunday School class, led the weekly Ladies Prayer and Bible study, and was a former Ladies Ministry president.
Her husband, Willie Ray Thompson, died May 15, 1970.
Survivors include daughter Donnell Stiller, St. Louis, Mo.; sons Bobby
Thompson,Mooresville, and Willie Thompson, Kannapolis; sister Alice Lewis, Kannapolis; brother Floyd Buff, Mooresville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Nelle Hays Troxler
The funeral will be Wednesday for Nelle Hays Troxler, 91, formerly of Rebel Road, who died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of Rowan.
Born Oct. 24, 1909, in Berea, Ky., Mrs.Troxler was a daughter of the late Richard Granville and Mary Angel Hays. She was a graduate of Berea College and attended graduate school at North Carolina State
University,Raleigh.
She taught high school in Albemarle for 10 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for 25 years. She was in the Eva Peeler Sunday School class and taught Sunday school.
Also a member of the Dutch Club and the Ex Libris Chapter Book Club, she was active with the Cancer Society for 45 years as campaign manager and president of the Cancer Society. She began the cancer golf tournament. A member of the state board for two years, she was a permanent member of the Cancer Society.
Mrs. Troxler helped organize the Hospitality Shop at Rowan Regional Medical Center and was treasurer of the auxiliary for 20 years.
She taught kindergarten at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for 16 years and was a charter member of the Heart Ball and the Board of Directors of Piedmont Players. She was a member of Salisbury Music Club.
Survivors include husband Lloyd “Red” W. Troxler; sons Bill Troxler, Salisbury, and Dr. David
Troxler, Asheville; and four grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St.John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John B. Tucker. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Zankiya Monique Kennedy, infant daughter of Debra Black Kennedy and Brante Kennedy, both of Salisbury, died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Forsyth Hospital, Winston-Salem.
The infant was born March 24, 2001, in Forsyth County.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brother Jonathan Black, of the home; sister Eureka Kennedy, of the home; maternal grandparent Willie Mae Dunlap Black, Salisbury; and paternal grandparents Lottie Kennedy, Rochester, N.Y., and Ernest Kennedy, Greensboro.
