SPENCER —The funeral will be Tuesday for Madison Monroe “Mac” Adams Jr., 68, Spencer, who died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center,Salisbury.
Born May 21, 1932, in Texasville, Ala., Mr. Adams was a son of the late Madison Monroe and Lucy Marie Bryan Adams. He was a graduate of Gulfport Military Academy, Gulfport, La., and was educated at the Coast Guard Academy,Connecticut and the University of Alabama. He finished his college studies while in the Air Force. He completed graduate studies at the University of Texas and Nautical War College, Washington, D.C.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he retired after 35 years with the Foreign Service as deputy chief counselor of the Foreign Service of the U.S. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Carol Collier Adams, whom he married Oct. 30, 1954; son James Douglas Adams, Westfield, N.J.; daughters Debra Lee Adams,Louisville, Ky., Melanie Ackerman, Charlotte, and Karen Marie Hemme, Arlington, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Tuesday, National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard location, Salisbury, conducted by a chaplain from Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.
Visitation: None.The family will be at the home in Spencer.

Shirley Irby Freeman
KANNAPOLIS — Shirley Mae Irby Freeman, 54, 743 W. A St., formerly of High Point, died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Feb. 13, 1947, at Alta Vista, Va., Mrs. Freeman, a daughter of the Rev. C.R. Irby, Norwood, and the late Rev. Maxine Irby, was a homemaker and attended Crossroads United Methodist Church.,
Survivors, in addition to her father, include son Tim E. Wright, Greensboro; daughters Deborah Dixon, Concord, and Belinda K. Wright, Buena Vista, Va.; sisters Jane Gillespie and Gail Brooks, both of Norwood; brothers Ray Irby and J.T. Irby, both of Norwood, and Wayne Irby, Braselton, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Carrie ‘Alice’ Goodman
LANDIS — Carrie “Alice”Goodman, 63, 413 Fifth St., died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center,Salisbury.
Born Aug. 26, 1937, in Davidson County, Mrs. Goodman, a daughter of the late Frank and Mollie J. Hooks, was a graduate of Winecoff School.
She retired as a deli supervisor from A&P Grocers. A member of Lakewood Baptist Church, she was a member of the choir.
Her husband, Hoyle Goodman, died May 20, 1990.
Survivors include son William Boyd Goodman, China Grove; and brother Marion Hooks, Morganton.

KANNAPOLIS — David Kermit Warren, 51, 1414 Gary Ave., died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle, after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 30, 1950, in Rowan County, Mr. Warren was a son of the late Kermit and Thelma Wike Warren. He was employed by Freightliner, Cleveland. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include wife Burma Graham Warren; sisters Louise Clawson, Mary Coile, Brenda Dwiggins and Kay Parker, all of Kannapolis; and brother Larry Warren, Mooresville.

Born June 24, 1957, in Stanly County, Mr. Herlocker was the son of SamuelD. and Esther Eudy Herlocker. He was self-employed atHerlocker/Huneycutt Well Drilling.
