Madison M. Adams Jr.

SPENCER — Madison Monroe Adams Jr., 68, Spencer, died Saturday (March 24, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Jackie Hall Carter

MOCKSVILLE — Jackie Dawn Hall Carter, 41, Singleton Road, died Saturday (March 24, 2001), at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Born Jan. 4, 1960, in Forsyth County, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of Harvey J. and Creola Dudley Hall, Winston-Salem. A dental assistant, she attended Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Rickie Carter; stepson Danny Carter, Mocksville; daughters Kimberly and April Carter, both of Mocksville; brother Michael Hall, Charlotte; and sisters Donna Rhodes, Kernersville, and Christine Hall, Winston-Salem.

Services:1 p.m. Monday, Jerusalem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and the Rev. Neil Eller. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the church.

Beulah K. Kepley

LEXINGTON — Beulah Koonts Kepley, 94, Old Highway 64, died Friday (March 23, 2001) at Sunbridge Nursing Home after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Kepley was born in Davidson County on July 8, 1906, the daughter of the late John Washington and Fallie Foster Koonts. Retired from Erlanger Mills, she was a member of Reeds Baptist Church and the senior citizen groups in Tyro and Reeds.

Her husband, Hugh Clifton Kepley, died April 9, 1969, and a daughter, Pansie Forrest, died in July 1978.

Survivors include sons Donald C. Kepley, Lexington, and Larry Malbourne Kepley, Charlotte; brother Paul Koonts of Long Beach; sister Mary Louise Ward of Reeds; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Reeds Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dan R. Hutchins and the Rev. Tony Metze. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of her son on Helmstetler Road.

Esther Morgan

GRANITE QUARRY — Esther L. Massenburg Morgan, 70, 796 White Rock Ave., died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She had been ill for two weeks.

Born Jan. 28, 1931, in Dinwiddie County, Va., Mrs. Morgan was a daughter of the late Major Washington and Fannie Pegram Young Massenburg. Educated in the public schools of Dinwiddie, Va., she had retired from the Olin Corp. in Stanford, Conn., where she worked in the accounts payable department.

A member of White Rock AME Zion Church, she served on the Life Members Council, the Stewardess Board, the Lay Council and the Kitchen Committee.

A son, Allen F. Mason, and a daughter, Michele W. Mason, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband Willie Burchette Morgan; son Ernest F. Mason, Long Island, N.Y.; brothers Major L. Massenburg, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Glover H. Massenburg, Petersburg, Va.; sister Mary V. Daniel, Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren.

The family will be at the residence. Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Arnold Holmes Snider Jr.

Arnold Holmes Snider Jr., 89, 324 N. Fulton St., died Saturday (March 24, 2001), at his home.

Born June 15, 1911, in Salisbury, Mr. Snider was the son of the late Arnold Holmes and Mary Harmon Snider. A graduate of Boyden High School, he graduated in 1933 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also attended Salisbury Business College and The Citadel.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was stationed at various naval bases and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex . He was a lieutenant commander when discharged.

Mr. Snider began his career at North Carolina Finishing Co. and was later associated with White Packing Co. After his military service, he served as president of the Eastern Rowan Telephone Co., Denton Telephone Co. and Mid Carolina Telephone Co. He served on the boards of each business as well as the boards of the N.C. Telephone Co. and Alltel Carolina for a number of years.

He and childhood friend Jim Krider together acquired the J.P. Mattox Insurance Agency, which later became the Krider, Snider, Maddox Insurance Agency and was eventually acquired by Wachovia Insurance Agency.

Mr. Snider was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council a number of years. He served as treasurer and teacher for the Sunday school and was a past president of the St. John’s Benevolent Foundation.

He was a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club for 55 years, serving as president and director. A charter member and director of the Salisbury Junior Chamber of Commerce, he was a former director of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce and a past director of the Salisbury branch of Bank of America.

He served on the Salisbury City Council and the Catawba College Board of Trustees, as well as the boards of the Salisbury-Rowan YMCA, the Rowan Cancer Society, the Friendship House and the Salisbury Country Club. He was a former chairman of the American Red Cross.

A trustee at Rowan Regional Medical Center for 25 years, he was a past president of the N.C. Telephone Association, where he served on the board of directors for 15 years and was director emeritus. He was a member of the Salisbury 13 Club, the Dunes Club of Myrtle Beach and Fulton Masonic Lodge No. 99, AF & AM.

Survivors include wife Kate Mills Snider; sons Arnold H. Snider III, Princeton, N.J., and Britt Snider, McLean, Va.; daughter Kay Snider, Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben, senior pastor, and the Rev. Jennifer Ginn, associate pastor. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation:7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Vern Widner Trexler

ROCKWELL — Vern Widner Trexler, 80, Rockwell, died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born Sept. 6, 1920, in Rowan County, Mr. Trexler was a son of the late Robert William and Mary Frances Miller Trexler. A 1940 graduate of Rockwell High School, he had retired in 1982 from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, as supervisor of the No. 7 slasher room.

He was a member of Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ and had served on the church consistory. He played with the Rockwell Golfing Group.

Survivors include wife Ruby Kathryn Rinehardt Trexler; son Vern “Bud” Trexler Jr., Rockwell; daughters Kay T. Wilson, Rockwell, and Connie T. Hillard, Salisbury; brother John Albert Trexler, Gold Hill; sisters Willie T. Davis, Rockwell, Donna Hallman and Evelyn Barne, both of Gold Hill, and Rose Fontenot, Sweeney, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Charles Sigler. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:5-7 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
