Beth Blocker

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. — Beth Blocker, 46, 1050 Chuli Road, died Thursday (March 22, 2001), at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale.

Born in Rockwell, N.C., Mrs. Blocker was a daughter of Mary Norris, Rockwell, N.C., and the late Stanley Norris.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband Don E. Blocker; daughter Gwendolyn Marie Blocker, Locust Grove; son Adam Terrell Blocker, Locust Grove; sisters Susan Russell and Kathy Stout, both of Rockwell, N.C.; and brother William David Norris, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, McCullough Funeral Home, Griffin.

Brady Baxter Bostian

Brady Baxter Bostian, 83, 2115 Shue Road, died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 20, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Bostian was the son of the late Grover Franklin and Pearl Lee Boston Bostian. Retired from Byrd Motor Line as a truck driver, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Eureka Masonic Lodge No. 283, China Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Theta Cress Bostian; son Max Bostian, Springville, Tenn.; daughter Gail B. Barbee, Mocksville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Grace Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Woodrow Frick. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

 

Evelyn Elizabeth Buck

MOUNT PLEASANT — Evelyn Elizabeth Hale Illingworth Buck, 87, 2640 Lentz Harness Shop Road N., died Thursday (March 22, 2001), at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born July 15, 1913, in Philadelphia, Mrs. Buck was the daughter of William Edward and Elizabeth Cubler Hale. She had retired from bookkeeping and sales for the estate of George S. Snyder Inc.

Her first husband, Charles Blaine Illingworth Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband James Lincoln Buck, Mount Pleasant; son Charles Blain Illingworth III, Harleysville, Pa.; daughter Evelyn Anne Illingworth Rajala, Grand Rapids, Mich.; stepson John Howard Buck, Norfolk, Va.; stepdaughters Gail Buck Josey, Mount Airy, and Suzanne Buck Poplin, New London; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. John Futterer.

Visitation:1-2 p.m. today, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

 

Ann Benfield Coggin

Ann Benfield Coggin, 77, Salisbury, died Thursday (March 22, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 15, 1924, in Gaston County, Mrs. Coggin was a daughter of the late Buren and Elsie Flowers Benfield. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired from Cartex Mills after 30 years with the company. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include son Del Coggin, Salisbury; brother Bill Benfield, Greencove Springs, Fla.; and sisters Ruth Ballard and Helen Ledford, both of Shelby.

Services:Memorial, 4 p.m. Sunday, Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. William Ragsdale, pastor. Private burial at a later date.

Visitation:3-4 p.m. Sunday, in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Claudia Estelle Dudley

KANNAPOLIS — Claudia Estelle Raper Dudley, 75, 2103 Clay St., died Friday (March 23, 2001), at her home.

Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Cherokee County, Mrs. Dudley was a daughter of the late Marshall and Adenia Beaver Raper. She had worked in several area restaurants over the years, including Lee’s Sandwich Shop.

Her husband, Thomas H. Dudley, died in 1993.

Survivors include sons Terry Dudley, Kannapolis, and Jerry Dudley, Salisbury; daughter Joyce Ritchie, Kannapolis; brothers Horace J., Howard H. and Ronia Raper, all of Kannapolis; sisters Hazel Smith and Charlean Scott, both of Kannapolis; and two grandsons.

Services:3 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Byron Whitley. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation:2-3 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Helen Julian Dunnagan

MOORESVILLE — Helen Julian Dunnagan, 79, Queens Cove Road, died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and the Rev. Dianne Donald. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:7-8:30 p.m. tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Neil H. McInnis Jr.

KANNAPOLIS — Neil H. McInnis Jr., 82, Kannapolis, died Tuesday (March 22, 2001), at Transitional Health Services.

Born Nov. 11, 1918, in Rockingham, Mr. McInnis was the son of the late Neil H. and Ada Davis McInnis. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with two bronze service stars and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre campaign medal with four bronze service stars.

He worked at Belk department store for 34 years.

His wife, Janie Ellen Connor McInnis, died in 2000.

Survivors include son Timothy Connor McInnis, Kannapolis; and sister Margaret Howard, Kannapolis;

Services:Memorial, 3 p.m. Sunday, Second Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Brant Piper. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park with military honors.

Visitation:7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home; also at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Notia Barnes Miller

Notia Barnes Miller, 83, Salisbury, died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Nov. 3, 1917, in Davie County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late J.C. and Lula Snyder Barnes. Educated in the Davie County schools, she had retired from Cartex Mills after 38 years with the company. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.

Her husband, Louie “Bud” Johnny Miller, died Jan. 30, 1993.

Survivors include son Hayden Miller, Salisbury; brothers James Monroe Barnes, Austell, Ga., and Cecil Ray Barnes, Welcome; sister Annie Campbell, Thomasville; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. today, Gospel Light Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ron Bankston, pastor. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation:1-2 p.m. today, in the church parlor.

Donald Wade Perry

ALBEMARLE — Donald Wade Perry, 55, 904 Larkhaven Lane, died Thursday (March 22, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Services:2 p.m. today, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold McDonald.

Visitation:No formal hours. The family will be at the residence.

Vern Trexler

ROCKWELL — Vern Trexler, 80, 1406 Lower Stone Church Road, died Friday (March 23, 2001), at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Robert L. Yelton

Robert L. Yelton, 83, Allen Lane, died Thursday (March 22, 2001), at Five Oaks Nursing Center in Concord.

Born Aug. 27, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Yelton was a son of the late Oliver and Buena Strider Yelton. Retired from Cone Mills Co., he was a member of Gold Hill United Methodist Church in Gold Hill. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Two children, Jackie and Billy Yelton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons Robert M. Yelton, Lake Norman, John and Peter Yelton, both of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and James Yelton, Gainesville, Fla.; sisters Martha Cook, Raleigh, Catherine Penninger and Jane Goodman, both of Concord, Barbara Ridenhour, Oak Hill, W.Va., and Betty Burrage, Misenheimer; brother John Yelton, Gold Hill; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Sunday, Salisbury National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. David Christy.

Visitation: The family will be at the home of sister Catherine Penninger, 678 Lenhaven St., Concord.
