Ervin Lee Armour
CHARLOTTE — Ervin Lee Armour, 62, 7121
Londontowne Drive, died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born June 22, 1938, in Statesville, Mr. Armour
was a son of Ervin S. Armour, Salisbury, and the late Alma Huggins Armour.
He was educated in the Statesville and Salisbury
city schools and received his undergraduate degree from Catawba College,
Salisbury. He received his master’s degree in public administration from the
University of South Carolina.
He served as a city planner and was city manager
for Greer, S.C., and taught public administration classes for the University of
South Carolina. In 1977, he joined Centralina Council of Governments and retired
as executive director in December.
He received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from
Gov. James B. Hunt for outstanding service to North Carolina.
A member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church,
he was in the Grace Sunday School class, adult Christian formation and on the
board of trustees and the administrative board.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include
wife of 41 years Jackie Cline Armour; son Alan Lee Armour, Salisbury; daughter
Terri A. Rowland, Monroe; and six grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Stephen
United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. R. Mark King and the Rev. Andy
Langford.

G.J. Campbell Jr.
KANNAPOLIS — G.J. Campbell Jr., 78, 1006 Mable
Ave., died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 17, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, Mr.
Campbell was a son of the late George Johnston and Katherine Rose Campbell. He
was retired.
A veteran of the U.S.Navy, he served in World War
II. He was a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian church and a member of Calvary
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Riddell Campbell;
daughters Catherine Haynes, Mastic, N.Y., Dorothy C.R. Apicella, Brooklyn, N.Y.,
and Peggy R.C. Garney, Enochville; son William J. Campbell, Elmont, N.Y.; nine
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Niceville, husband of Sheila Bostian Christmas, a former Salisbury, N.C.,
resident, died Monday (March 19, 2001) at a Niceville area hospital.

Elaine Wilkie Sechler
CHINA GROVE — Elaine Wilkie Sechler, 81, 710 S.
Main St., died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at her home.
Born Dec. 7, 1919, in Gaston County,Mrs. Sechler,
a daughter of the late H.H. and Myrtle Faddrell Wilkie, was educated at China
Grove High School. She retired from Midway Florist and had earlier worked for
China Grove Cotton Mills. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Her husband, Flake V. Sechler, died in 1973.
Survivors include son Donnie B. Sechler,
Kannapolis; brother Elmer Ray “Tink” Wilkie, Thomasville; sister Audarine
Bost, Indian Trail; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mae Lynch Shepherd
CHINA GROVE — Mae Lynch Shepherd, 87, 1985 N.
Main St., died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at Five Oaks Nursing Home,Concord.
Born July 17, 1913, in Yadkin County, Mrs.
Shepherd was a daughter of the late Julius R. and Lora Ellen Hutchens Lynch. She
was educated in the Yadkin County schools and retired from Linn-Corriher Mill.
She was a member of Landis Baptist Church, Senior Saints and Lois Rutledge
Circle.
Her husband, Ernest Adam Shepherd, died in 1993;
a daughter, Patsy Marie Childress, died in 1998.
Survivors include son Gene Shepherd, China Grove;
daughter Verline Sloop, China Grove; brothers John L. Lynch, Harlingen, Texas,
James Lynch, China Grove, and Lloyd and Wayne Lynch, both of Yadkinville;
sisters Myrtle Allgood and Minnie Beatty, both of Yadkinville, and Opal
Freeman,Walkertown; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.

Jackie Buren Williams
LEWISVILLE — Jackie Buren Williams, 59,
Lewisville, a former Cooleemee resident, died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at
Forsyth Medical Center,Winston-Salem.
Born April 30, 1941, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Williams was a son of the late Jessie and Esther Woodard Williams. He was
employed by Tyco for over 30 years.He was an assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout
Troop 770.
Survivors include sons Bryant and Zachary
Williams, both of Winston-Salem, and Chad Williams, Galveston, Texas; sisters
Jenette Ridenhour and Shelby Holt, both of Mocksville, and Linda Drane,
Yadkinville; brother Kenneth Williams, Mocksville; and three granddaughters.
