Marchel C. Bailey
CLIFFSIDE — Marchel C. Bailey, 67, 2044 Ferry
Road, died Friday (March 16, 2001), at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He
was a former Salisbury resident.
Born in Cleveland County, Mr. Bailey was a son of
the late Void C. and Eva Dobbins Bailey. A U.S. Army veteran, he had retired as
assistant manager with Cone Mills’ Salisbury plant.
He was a member of the board of directors at
Cliffside Cemetery, where he also served as treasurer. He was also a member of
Providence United Methodist Church in Forest City.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Allen Bailey;
daughter Sondra Radford of Salisbury; brother Willard Bailey of Forest City;
sisters Eloise Kanipe and Jerene Landreth, both of Cliffside; and two
grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Providence United
Methodist Church, Forest City, conducted by the Rev. Morris Byers. Burial,
Cliffside Cemetery.

Della Allman Beaver
CHINA GROVE — Della Ruth Allman Beaver, 90,
formerly of China Grove, died Friday (March 16, 2001) at the Lutheran Home in
Salisbury.
Born Aug. 31, 1910, in Mecklenburg County, she
was a daughter of the late James Garner and Carrie Mason Allman. Educated in the
Rowan County schools, she was employed by Cannon Mills until her retirement.
Her husband, Lewis A. Beaver, died Feb. 9, 1980.
Survivors include sons Bennett Beaver of
Salisbury and the Rev. Tommy Beaver of Troutman; daughters Phyllis Ritchie of
Concord and Linda Cherry of China Grove; sisters Ethel Stowe of Concord and
Lucille Barrier of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Services:4 p.m. Sunday, Ebenezer Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. C.P. Fisher. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation:3-4 p.m. Sunday in the church
fellowship hall. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Linda
Cherry on Ketner Farm Road.

FAIRVIEW — Bertie Smith Dennard, 93, formerly
of Kannapolis, died Friday (March 16, 2001), at the home of granddaughter
Kimberly Price in Black Mountain.

Lillian Stutts Freeze
Lillian Pauline Stutts Freeze, 95, died Thursday
(March 15, 2001) at her residence. She had been seriously ill for two months.
Born Oct. 9, 1905, in Mooresville, she was a
daughter of the late John L. and Lula Walker Stutts. Educated in the Mooresville
schools, she had retired in 1985 after 50 years with Rowan Cotton Mill. She was
a member of Second Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Ira E. Freeze, and a daughter, Faye
F. Aldridge, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Richard Freeze of
Goldsboro and Ned Ray Freeze and Larry Freeze, both of Salisbury;daughter Jean
Morris of Salisbury, with whom she made her home; sister Fannie McLaughlin of
Mooresville; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Second Presbyterian
Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Thornton. The body will be placed in the
church at 1 p.m. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation:1-2 p.m. Sunday in the church

‘Johnnie’ Furr
GOLD HILL — Joseph John “Johnnie”Furr, 49,
Morgan Road, died Thursday (March 15, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center in
Salisbury.
His father, Joe H. Furr, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Randock Furr;
daughter Misty Marie Furr; sons Joe Henry and Tom Lee Furr; sisters Kathy Davis
of Gold Hill, Frances Gray of Rockwell and Mary Ann Allman of Concord; and one
grandchild.
Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Wilkinson Funeral Home in
Concord. Burial, Sunset Cemetery, Kannapolis.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At
other times the family will be at the home of a nephew, Gary Davis, 855 Morgan
Road.
Alice Janie Gullett
Alice Janie Gullett, 83, died Wednesday (March
14, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born July 7, 1917, in Rowan County, she was a
daughter of the late Jessie and Fannie Mae House Gullett. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Salisbury Church of
God.
Survivors include sisters Bessie Smith and Sadie
Cloer, both of Salisbury.
Services:Graveside, 3 p.m. Monday, conducted by
the Rev. Joseph LaFrage. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: There will be no formal visitation.
The family will be at the home of a nephew, Bob Williams of Salisbury.

Mary Alice Waller
WOODLEAF — Mary Alice Seamon Waller, 77, N.C.
Highway 801, died Friday (March 16, 2001), at Wake Forest University Baptist
Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Born March 16, 1924, in Davie County, Mrs. Waller
was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Taylor and James Ritchie Seamon. A
homemaker, she was a member of Corinth Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, George Franklin
Waller; and a sister, Evelyn Hood, Monroe.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Eaton Funeral Home in
Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Tim Pinkston. Burial, Corinth Church of
