LANDIS — The funeral will be Friday for Billy Ray Brown, 68, 1210 Highland Ave., who died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born May 22, 1932, in Rowan County, Mr. Brown, a son of the late John Wesley and Ada Bell Weaver Brown, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He was a construction worker.

EAST SPENCER —The funeral will be Friday for Thomas Junior Byrd, 73, 310 Weant St., who died Monday (March 5, 2001)at his home.
Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Wake County, Mr. Byrd, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Montgomery Byrd, was educated in the Raleigh schools. He was employed by Isenhour Brick.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. He was a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107, Salisbury.

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Friday for Harley Leon Lambert, 63, Rockwell, who died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 15, 1937, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Lambert, a son of the late Lewis Edgar and Emma Geneva Keller Lambert, was educated in the Rowan County schools. In 1992, he retired from Fieldcrest Cannon plant 1 No. 7 slasher room. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Salisbury, where he was in the men’s Sunday school class and was a former RA counselor.

Born May 25, 1915, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Mason was a son of the late Luther S. and Della May Stowe Mason. He worked in several textile mills and was a farmer and a retired Freewill Baptist minister.

MOCKSVILLE — Edna Gelene Jolly McDaniel, 65, Rolling Wood Drive, died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Feb. 4, 1936, in Davie County, Mrs. McDaniel, a daughter of the late George W. and Cora Jones Jolly, was a homemaker and member of Dulin United Methodist Church.

CHINA GROVE — Suma Verona Isenhour Patterson, 96, formerly of Old Beatty Ford Road, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Deal Care Inn, Mooresville.
Born July 7, 1904, in Alexander County, Mrs. Patterson, a daughter of the late Martin Preston and Lessie Mae Payne Isenhour, was educated in the Alexander County schools.
She retired in 1980 after 43 years with Cannon Mills shipping and packaging department. A charter member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and Blackwelder Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of Blackwelder Baptist’s Just Older Youth (JOY)group.
Her husband, T.R. Patterson, died in 1983.
Survivors include son Floyd Patterson,China Grove; daughter Margaret Barnette, China Grove; brother Thad Isenhour, Taylorsville; sisters Mamie Capps, Sumter, S.C., Edith Keever, Taylorsville, Bonnie Warren, Stony Point, and Gay Nell Dormstadt, Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Dr. Thomas M. Shoaf
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Dr. Thomas M. Shoaf, a Salisbury, N.C., native, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001).
Born in 1922, Dr. Shoaf served in the Navy during World War II and graduated with honors from Southern College of Optometry. In 1948, he established the first optometric practice in Delray Beach, where he practiced for 50 years.
Dr. Shoaf was active in the community and was a member of Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce since its inception. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and its president in 1956.
A deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church, Delray Beach, he was a long-time supporter of Atlantic High School. He was a founding father of Delray Beach Tennis Center.
Survivors include wife Viola Shoaf; daughters Holly Shoaf-O’Kula, Augusta, Ga., Donna Zumbrunnen, Woodstock,Ga., and Grace Anne Larson, Okeechobee; stepdaughter Maureen Hartnagel, Boca Raton; stepsons Joseph Missbach, Skowhegan, Maine, Gerard Missbach, Boynton Beach, Brian Missbach, Ridgewood, N.J., and Gregg and Michael Missbach, both of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters Anne Loblein, Salisbury, N.C., and Elizabeth Withers, Covington,Ga.; and 21 grandchildren.

Her husband,Clarence Williams, preceded her in death.

KANNAPOLIS — William Reece Woodard, 77, 832 Fairview St., died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at his home.
Born Jan. 28, 1924, in Ruby, S.C., Mr. Woodard was a son of the late Mathis and Bessie Jordan Woodard. He owned and operated Middleton Service Station. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he served in World War II.
Survivors include wife Stella Kerley Woodard; sons Bruce and Tony Woodard, both of Kannapolis; sister Idell Tarleton,Kannapolis; brothers J.B. and Howard Woodard, both of Kannapolis; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Mildred D. Yarboro
The funeral will be Saturday for Mildred Dennis Yarboro, 87, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health and a month of serious illness.
Born Sept. 14, 1913, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Yarboro, a daughter of the late Martin Fillmore and Fannie Alice Hunsucker Dennis, was a graduate of Troy High School. She retired in 1983 after 25 years with N.C. Finishing Co.
A member of Yadkin Baptist Church, she was pianist for almost 20 years. She participated in Sunday school at Yadkin House and received the Helping Hands Award in 1983.
Her husband, David Alvin Yarboro, died Nov. 29, 1983, and a daughter, Zona Peterson Yarboro, died in October 2000.
Survivors include son Fred David Yarboro,Salisbury; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
