Gerald Walter Blevins

KANNAPOLIS — Gerald Walter Blevins, 60, 712 1/2 Hillside St., died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Dec. 15, 1940, in West Jefferson, Mr. Blevins was a son of Sarah Blevins, Kannapolis, and the late Brownlo Blevins. He retired in 2000 from Fieldcrest-Cannon Inc. due to illness.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Arlene Lanagan Blevins; children Sherry James, Lori Gazeley, Ralph Lacks, Kelly Lacks, Billy Jean Livengood, Shalimar Straham, Tammy Blevins, Joyce Odom, Dalene Blevins and Gerald W. Blevins Jr.; brothers Eddie, James and Allen Blevins; sister Sue Shaeffer; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sunset Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Mick Hinson.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

 

Billy Ray Brown

LANDIS — Billy Ray Brown, 69, 1210 Highland Ave., died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Janie L. Bullins

Janie Linebarger Bullins, 88, formerly of Lafayette Circle, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born Sept. 17, 1912, in Lincoln County, Mrs. Bullins, a daughter of the late Ivey Johnson and Amelia Ballard Linebarger, was educated in the Lincoln County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Landis Baptist Church.

Her husband, Cleveland Ernest Bullins, died May 6, 1950. A grandson also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Baxter L. Linebarger and Donald M. Bullins, both of Salisbury; sister Elizabeth L. Miller, Salisbury; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday,Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt, pastor, Landis Baptist Church, and the Rev.Roby Linebarger, pastor, Carmel Baptist Church. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hugh ‘Buck’ Carpenter

KANNAPOLIS — HughBoyce “Buck” Carpenter, 81, 1204 N. Juniper Ave., died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation,Salisbury.

Born July 2, 1919, in Union County, Mr. Carpenter was a son of the late Millard and Pearl Carpenter. He was a salesman for the former Star Furniture Co. and owned and operated Buck’s Used Furniture Store until December 2000.

A son, Gene Carpenter, died in 1975.

Survivors include wife Daisy McRorie Carpenter; son Terre Carpenter, Kannapolis; and one granddaughter.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev.Coy Privette. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth Lambert Dick

ALBEMARLE — Ruth Lambert Dick, 84, 24410 Bost Road, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Canton Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Bost Road.

 

Martha ‘MaLeese’ Gray

The funeral will be Friday for Martha “MaLeese” Fleming Gray, 65, 320 W. Harrison St., who died Monday (March 5, 2001) at her home after two weeks of serious illness.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Trinity Presbyterian Church USA, conducted by the Rev. George Hunter. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

NEW LONDON —Joe D.Huneycutt, 65, New London, died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

ROCKWELL — Harley Leon Lambert, 63, Rockwell, died Wednesday (March 7, 2001) at his home.

Kathleen W. Leonard

LINWOOD — Kathleen Elizabeth Whitaker Leonard, 88, 484 Tater Bug Drive, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born May 11, 1912, in Fulton County,Ga., Mrs. Leonard was a daughter of the late James Henry and Mattie Caroline Harper Whitaker. She was employed at Dacotah Cotton Mill and was a charter member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle.

Survivors include husband Tullar “Tade” Leonard; daughters Georgia Beckom and Margaret Ragan, both of Linwood; sons James “Jim” Smith, Lexington, and Dennis Marble,Linwood; sister Dorothy Berrier, Welcome; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. James Gray. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.At other times the family will be at the home on Tater Bug Drive.

Mildred Dennis Yarboro

Mildred Dennis Yarboro, 87, Salisbury, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
