Jimmy E. Carpenter

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Jimmy Eugene Carpenter, 56, 708 Boyd St., who died Friday (March 2, 2001) at Britthaven of Charlotte after several years of declining health.

Born March 1, 1945, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Carpenter was a son of the late Ralph Eugene and Annie Pauline Phillips Carpenter. He attended Landis Baptist Church. A self-employed carpenter, he worked for various local contractors.

His wife, Jettie Renee Honeycutt Carpenter, died Dec. 17, 2000.

Survivors include sons James and Kevin Carpenter, both of Concord; brother Wayne Carpenter, Kannapolis; sisters Linda Vanderburg and Kay Carroll, both of Kannapolis, Diane Hopkins, Concord, and Debbie Fisher, Georgia; and six grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of sister Linda Vanderburg, 214 Key West Ave.

 

Walter Jackson

WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Tuesday for Walter Jackson, 81, 825 Will Black Road, who died Thursday (March 1, 2001) at Rowan Regional MedicalCenter,Salisbury.

Born Dec. 10, 1919, in Chester County, S.C., Mr. Jackson was a son of the late Phil and Ellen Foster Jackson. He was educated in the Chester County, S.C., schools. A member of Macedonia Baptist Church, he was employed by Southern Implement,Salisbury.

Sons Jimmy and Willie J. Jackson preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Sarah Jackson, McConnells, S.C.; son William Jackson, McConnells, S.C.; daughter Mary Ann Jackson, New York; sisters Beatrice Watson and Geneva Gist, both of Rock Hill, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Macedonia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. W.T. Jackson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Rowan Funeral Service, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Harold ‘Bucky’ Little

CLEVELAND — Harold L. “Bucky” Little, 69, 14725 Cool Springs Road, died Sunday (March 4, 2001) at his home.

Born July 6, 1931, in Patterson, N.J., Mrs. Little was a son of the late Leo P. and Laura M. Kimble Little. He was a self-employed truck driver and a Methodist.

Survivors include companion Margaret McIntyre, of the home; daughter Lorie Quarter, Stockholm, N.J.; stepson Jeff Wyble,Bloomington, N.J.; stepdaughter Joann Johnson, Kinnleon, N.J.; and eight grandchildren.

Services: Private memorial, 5 p.m. Tuesday at the home on Cool Springs Road. The Rev. George Troyer and the Rev. Doris Weddington will officiate.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home until 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Juana Alvarez

LANDIS — Juana Herrera Alvarez, 78, Green Mobile Home Park,Lot 32, died Sunday (March 4, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a year of declining health.

Born May 24, 1923, in Zacatecas, Mexico, Mrs. Alvarez was a daughter of the late Jose Herrera and Severa Alvarez. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Kannapolis.

Her husband, Rafael Marquez, died in 1977. She was also preceded in death by a son, Antonio Contreras, and a grandson.

Survivors include sons Fidel Contreras, Mexico, Luis Contreras, Landis, Elpidio Marquez, China Grove, Ebaristo Marquez, Los Angeles, Calif., Nicolas and Jose Marquez, both of China Grove, and Artemio Marquez, Kannapolis; daughters Marcelina Contreras, Los Angeles,Calif., and Olga Marquez, Mexico; sisters Maria Herrera, El Paso, Texas, Epifania Herrera and Mercedes Herrera, both of Mexico; brothers Antonio Herrera and Mariano Herrera, both of Mexico; 39 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church,Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Karl Aschmann. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Rosary prayer service at 8 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of son Artemio Marquez, 2102 Pennsylvania Ave., Kannapolis.

 

Mildred J. Hartman

Mildred Jacobs Hartman, 88, Salisbury, died Monday (March 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Edna Elizabeth Mills

The funeral will be Tuesday for Edna Elizabeth Mills, 64, 923 Locke St., who died Friday (March 2, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Nov. 13, 1936, in Rowan County, Ms. Mills was a daughter of Edward and Tryphina Wiseman Mills of Salisbury. She was a graduate of Morningside High School, Statesville, and attended North Carolina State, Durham, and Cortez School of Business, Washington, D.C.

A resident of New York for 35 years, she was last employed by the New York Housing Authority. She was a former member of Center Street AMEZionChurch, Statesville.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sisters Peggy DuRante, Queens Village, N.Y., and Virginia Wilson,Salisbury.

Services: Noon Tuesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Willie Aldrich. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 11 a.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.
