Enice Bare Burke
Enice Bare Burke, 88, 813 Cruse
Road, died Friday (March 2, 2001) at her home.
Born Feb. 23, 1913, in Wilkes
County, Mrs. Burke was the daughter of the late Polly Dixon and Lee Bare.
Educated in the Wilkes County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of
China Grove Church of God, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Her husband, Martin Joseph Burke,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons John L.
Burke, Salisbury, Donald H. Burke, Knoxville, Tenn., Howard D. and Michael E.
Burke, both of Williamsburg, Va., and Teddy F. Burke, Greensboro; daughters
Delta Bean, Winston-Salem, Marilyn Jordan, Salisbury, Wanda Hukill, Clifton
Forge, Va., Joyce Burke, Williamsburg, Va., and Martha Coleman, Wahiawa, Hawaii;
brothers Winfred Bare, Salisbury, and Lonnie Bare, Gastonia; sisters Mary
Gaultney, Grafton, Va., Evone Redhair, Grafton, Va., and Mrs. Clyde Randolph,
Gastonia; 26 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, China
Grove Church of God, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Ervin Hukill, the Rev.
Teddy Burke. the Rev. Roger Lunsford and the Rev. Gerald Coleman. Entombment at
West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.
Visitation: 5-8:30 tonight,
Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. Other times, the family will be at the
home on Cruse Road.

Walter Cecil Clarke
KANNAPOLIS —Walter Cecil
Clarke, 79, 318 Spring Garden Ave., died Friday (March 2, 2001) at the Hefner VA
Medical Center in Salisbury after a five-year illness.
Born May 29, 1921, in Gastonia,
Mr. Clarke was the son of the late Walter E. and Susie E. White Clarke. He
served in the 591st Service Battery during World War II and fought at the Battle
of the Bulge
A Mount Holly police officer for
four years, he later retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg school security after 16
years of service.
Mr. Clarke was a member of Cannon
Memorial Lodge No. 626, the Gourmet Unit of the Shriners, DAV Chapter 27,
FOP-Charlotte, the Retired Police Association of Rowan County and Kannapolis
Alliance Church.
Survivors include his wife of 31
years, Lillian Galloway Clarke; son Cecil N. Clarke, Camden; daughter Barbara
Presswood, Newton; sisters Margaret Harkey, Charlotte, and Evelyn Carson,
Gastonia; stepdaughters Wilma M. Moore, Kannapolis, Peggy L. Ammons, Kannapolis,
Jerry Diane Roseman, Rockwell, and Karen Moore, Kannapolis; stepson R.P. Wilson,
Mooresville; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seven
step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday,

Carolina Memorial Park ,with military rites by DAV Chapter 27.

Nannie Sue Garner
KANNAPOLIS—Nannie Sue Tuck
Garner, 88, formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday (March 3, 2001) at Deal Care
Inn in Mooresville after a six-month illness.
Born May 16, 1912, in Halifax
County, Va., Mrs. Garner was the daughter of the late David G. and Bessie Lee
Tuck. She was educated in the Halifax County (Va.) schools.
A member of Calvary Baptist
Church, she was employed with Cannon Mills in the sewing department until she
retired in 1977. She volunteered at the YMCA, where she taught crafts.
Her husband, John J. Garner, died
in 1994.
Survivors include brother Julian
O. Tuck, Patterson, N.J.; half brother Jerry C. Tuck, Kannapolis; and half
sisters Margaret Foster, Kannapolis, and Betty Thompson, Mooresville.
Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Calvary
Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dale Tanner and the Rev. Tom Tucker.
Burial in Carolina Memorial Park.

the church.

William Edgar Prim
KANNAPOLIS — William Edgar
Prim, 83, 1705 Central Drive, died Saturday (March 3, 2001) at St. Andrews
Living Center in Concord.
Born Sept. 21, 1917, in Guilford
County, Mr. Prim was the son of the late George and Lilly Southern Prim. He
received the Purple Heart for injuries received during service with the U.S.
Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines with the 38th
Infantry Division.
Educated at Catawba College, Mr.
Prim worked for the N.C. Employment Security Commission as a veterans
representative for 25 years until he retired in 1980. In earlier years, he owned
and operated a neon sign business that specialized in glass bending.
Mr. Prim was a member of Jackson
Park United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the administrative
board and sang in the choir. He was a former Sunday school teacher and
Scoutmaster.
He was a member of DAV Chapter 27
and American Legion Post 51, where he served as the oratorical contest chairman.
Survivors include wife Ruth
Walters Prim, sons Michael W. Prim, Raleigh, and Richard Prim, Salisbury; and
two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jackson
Park United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Skipper Watwood and the Rev.
Dr. Mary John Dye. Burial in Carolina Memorial Park with military rites by DAV
Chapter 27.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Monday,
