Downed line slows good news for RiverPark

SALISBURY POST

MOCKSVILLE — Whoever was driving that tractor- trailer that kept Ken Sales from getting the go-head to announce the final $13,000 contribution to the $1.1 million for the first phase development of the Cooleemee RiverPark probably doesn’t even know what happened.

According to Mocksville’s assistant police chief, W.J. Stoneman, the truck clipped a sagging phone line which snapped a power line which shorted out power in Mocksville at about 3:10 Thursday afternoon, and it remained out for at least a couple of hours.

Police didn’t record the time Duke Power Co. got power restored, but it was still out, he said, when he left work at 5 p.m.

“It affected the downtown, three traffic lights, town hall and the county administration building,” he said.

But the sagging line was the culprit, he said, not the truck, and it just went on its way.
