Weldon LaVern Davis
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Weldon LaVern Davis, 74, First Assembly Living Center, Concord, who died Tuesday (June 26, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 5, 1927, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Davis, a son of the late William Weldon and Matilda Elizabeth Hurst Davis, was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Seabees. A truck driver, he worked for Akers and Pilot trucking companies. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
His wife, Betty Furr Davis, died March 17, 1995.
Survivors include daughters Gail Overcash, Kannapolis, and Beth Weaver, Charlotte; son Tim Davis, Concord; sister Hallie Owensby, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otis Snow, the Rev. R.J.Hammond and the Rev. Ronnie W. Parker. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Loma ‘Tootie’ Garver
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Loma “Tootie” Blackwelder
Garver, 88, 507 Park St., who died Wednesday (June 27, 2001) at her home.
Born May 23, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Garver, a daughter of the late Cora Bell Safrit and John Henderson Blackwelder, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
She was employed by Cannon Mills for 50 years, where she worked in the sewing room. An active member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove, she was in the Golden Agers, Dale Freeze Sunday School Class and WELCA.
Her husband, Roy B. Garver, died Dec. 29, 1963.
Survivors include sister Myrtle Ritchie, Kannapolis.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Charles McMurphy. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Eltha M. Pinkston
HAMPTON, Va. — Eltha Margaret Pinkston, 83, Hampton, a Salisbury, N.C., native, died Wednesday (June 27, 2001) from a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Pinkston, a daughter of the late Elizabeth L. Bame, retired as an accountant from Hampton VA Center in the mid-1970s after 17 years of civil service.
She was a member of Colonial Chapter 40, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include husband of 60 years William L. Pinkston; son Dr. W.Thomas Pinkston, Virginia Beach; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.
