KANNAPOLIS — Charles Kenneth Caton, 77, 302 Larry Drive, died Saturday (June 23 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 9, 1923, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late June Alexander and Myrtle Draughn Caton. Mr. Caton had retired in 1985 from Fieldcrest-Cannon, where he was supervisor of the cotton department.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Philippines.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Grayson Caton; brother Frank Caton of Concord; and sister Miriam Duckett of Gastonia.

James Connor
James Dorsett “High Pockets” Connor, 91, Bringle Ferry Road, died Saturday (June 23, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Born Nov. 13, 1909, he was the son of the late Henry Workman and Mary Elizabeth Gobble Connor. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.
Mr. Connor had retired from Southern Railway after more than 40 years as a machinist. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
His first wife, Lillian Propst Connor, died Sept. 30, 1992.
Survivors include wife Helen Beck; son Marshall Beck of Mocksville; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Conder and the Rev. Stan Champion.

Virginia Eifler Fink
Virginia Eifler Fink of Salisbury died Saturday (June 23, 2001) at her home.
Born in Madison, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Cora Egan Eifler. Educated in the Madison schools, she had retired in 1970 after 38 years with Southern Bell. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.
Her son, Thomas John Fink Jr., died March 21, 1994.
Survivors include husband Thomas John Fink, whom she married Nov. 4, 1950; and sister Marion Eagan of Lodi, Wis.

Gerald Bruce Lewis
CHINA GROVE — Gerald Bruce Lewis, 58, China Grove, died Saturday (June 23, 2001) at his home.
Born April 2, 1943, in Robeson County, he was the son of the late E. Morrison and Myrtle Bruce Lewis. A graduate of Lumberton High School, he also attended Pembroke State University.
Mr. Lewis was employed in data processing in Kannapolis for 38 years, first with Cannon Mills and later with Lockheed Martin. He was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at West Corinth Baptist Church in Mooresville.
Survivors include wife Shirley A. Lewis; son David Scott Lewis of China Grove; daughter Wendi Lewis Hopkins of China Grove; brothers Billy and Maurice Lewis, both of Lumberton; three grandchildren; one half brother; and two half sisters.

Born Nov. 10, 1983, in Davie County, he was the son of Peggy Robbins Sims Ellison of Mocksville and the late Melvin Sims. He was a rising senior at Davie County High School, where he was a former member of ROTC. He worked as a bagger and cashier at BiLo in Mocksville.
