Rosa Gregory Baker
KANNAPOLIS Rosa Jane Gregory Baker, 91, formerly of
601 Sumner St., died Thursday (June 21, 2001) Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord.
Born Nov. 4, 1909, in Iredell County, Mrs. Baker was the
daughter of the late Bedford Turner and Florence DeCordie Byers Gregory. A homemaker, she
formerly worked in the washcloth department of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Center
Grove Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Martin Flowe Baker, died June 5, 1993.
Survivors include sons James B. Baker, China Grove, Ray E.
Baker, Kannapolis, the Rev. Gene Baker, Spartanburg, S.C., and the Rev. Howard G. Baker,
Rockwell; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Ladys Funeral Home,
conducted by his son, the Rev. Gene Baker. Burial, Center Grove Lutheran Church cemetery.

Rheba Iris Bare
LANDIS Rheba Iris Bare, 84, 109 S. Correll, died
Friday (June 22, 2001) at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis.
Born May 21, 1917, in Ashe County, Miss Bare was the
daughter of the late Jessie and Elizabeth Baker Bare. She was educated in the Rowan County
schools. A member of Christian Fellowship Church, she was formerly employed at
Linn-Corriher Mills. She later retired as a winder at Cannon Mills.
Survivors include several nieces.

Park, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Paula Cockrell.

John Robert Davis
COOLEEMEE John Robert Davis, 53, Duke Street, died
Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 17, 1949, in Davie County, Mr. Davis was the son
of the late Ralph and Blanche Hawkins Davis. A Vietnam War veteran, he worked for The Budd
Group in Winston-Salem.
Survivors include son Eric Davis, Winston-Salem; daughter
Sonia Hamilton, Salisbury; and one grandchild.
The body will be cremated. There is no service scheduled.

Lois Moon King
WINSTON-SALEM Lois Moon King, 84, formerly of
Salisbury, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at Pellcare Lutheran Home after three days of
serious illness.
Born April 16, 1917, in Anderson S.C., she was the daughter
of the late Tal and Mary Jane Moon. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.
Her husband, Albert Buster King, died in 1961;
a son, Albert King Jr., died in 1993; and a daughter, Juanita King, died in 1995.
Survivors include daughter Delores King Turner, Greensboro;
three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Hayes A. Morgan
Hayes Alexander Morgan, 76, Salisbury, died Friday (June
22, 2001).
Born March 17, 1925, in Rowan County, Mr. Morgan was the
son of the late Charlie and Fannie Stiller Morgan. Educated in the Rowan County schools,
he had retired from the machine shop at Cannon Mills, Plant 1. He was a member of St.
Peters Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a life member
of the Lutheran Brotherhood.
Survivors include wife Blanche Trexler Morgan, whom he
married Aug. 28, 1948; sons Hayes A. Morgan, Salisbury and Rick Morgan, Raleigh; daughter
Susan Cruse, Salisbury; brother Guy E. Morgan, Salisbury; and 11 grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, St. Peters Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. Doug Hefner, pastor, and the Rev. C.P. Fisher. Burial, church

Joe Stegall
KANNAPOLIS Joe Stegall, 74, formerly of 104 W. 22nd
St., died Friday (June 22, 2001) at Five Oaks Nursing Center after a year of illness.
Born Sept. 13, 1926, in Union County, he was the son of the
late Floyd and Bessie Griffin. He was adopted by his grandparents, the late Luther and
Minnie Stegall.
Mr. Stegall was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He owned and
operated the Klondike convenience store on North Cannon Boulevard before his retirement.
A daughter, Jettie Sehonr, died Dec. 17, 2000.
Survivors include wife Evelyn F. Stegall; daughter Vickie
Logston, Chattanooga, Tenn.; stepdaughter Colette Abernathy, Landis, stepsons Scott
Honeycutt, Landis, and Darrell Honeycutt, Albemarle; sisters Ruby Tallent, Stanley, and
Margie Moss, Charlotte; brothers Harry Griffin and Bill Stegall, both of Denver; 11
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

James Yoder Wilfong
NEWTON James Yoder Wilfong, 89, 1783 Shady Lane,
died Friday (June 22, 2001) at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Hickory. He was the father of
Neal David Wilfong, Cleveland.

Employed by Western Steer Restaurant, she was a member of Berean Church Ministries,

Born Dec. 25, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wise was the
daughter of the late Grady and Stella Moser Fields. Educated in the Cabarrus County
schools, she had retired from Cannon Mills. She was a member of First Baptist Church,
China Grove.
Survivors include husband Everette Hobert Wise; daughter
Ellen Wise DeVoe, Salisbury; brother Perry Fields, Bolivia, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. today, West Lawn Mausoleum Chapel,
