Leroy John Boone

KANNAPOLIS — Leroy John Boone, 67, 516 Spring St., died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at his home.

Born Aug. 23, 1933, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Boone, a son of the late John Bunyun and Lillie Mae Grooms Boone, served in the National Guard.He retired from Cannon Mills Co. and was a member of Living Word Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include sons L. Wayne Boone, Pineville, Daniel Keith, Timothy Dean and John Richard Boone, all of Kannapolis; daughter Debra Louise Boone, Shelby; brother William Boone, Kannapolis; sisters Ruby B. Draper and Bonnie B. Purvis, both of Kannapolis; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Boone. Burial, Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

George D. Edmiston

KANNAPOLIS — George Delmer Edmiston, 82, 913 Coopers Ridge Drive, formerly of Mooresville, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury.

Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Iredell County, Mr. Edmiston was a son of the late Thomas I. and Mattie Ballard Edmiston. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

In 1983, he retired as superintendent of quality control from Dan River Inc., Danville, Va.

A daughter, Lynda Edmiston Delisle, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Marie Roberts Edmiston; stepson D.Allen White, Concord; sister Louise Edmiston Varner, China Grove; brothers Thomas Edmiston,Mooresville, and Lewis Edmiston,Mount Mourne; and two grandsons.

Services: None.

Lady’s Funeral Home in charge.

Zenda Lee Hedrick

LEXINGTON — Funeral services were held at 11 this morning for Zenda Lee Snider Hedrick, 68, Hedrick Mill Road, who died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Services were at Bethany United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Davidson Funeral Home was in charge.

James H. Hilliard

LEXINGTON — James Henry Hilliard, 84, South Highway 150, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after several years of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Tyro United Methodist Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:0-8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on South Highway 150.

 

Charles Howard

ALBEMARLE — Charles Robert “Bulldog” Howard, 49, 1223 Long St. Ext., formerly of Landis, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 27, 1952, in Stanly County, Mr. Howard was a son of Peggy Adams Howard Hammond, Rockwell, and the son and stepson of Ned Lemuel and Lou Sibbett Howard, Albemarle. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors, in addition to his parents and stepmother, include companion and caregiver Mary Christina Walton, of the home; son Charles Robert Howard Jr., of the home; daughters Charlotte Sue Howard, Albemarle, and Charli Kristine Howard, of the home; stepdaughter Samantha Jo Walton, of the home; brother Ned Lemuel Howard Jr., Landis; half brother Randy Hammond, Rockwell; stepbrothers Robert and Martin Hambrick, both of Albemarle; and half sister Angela Leatherman, Woodleaf.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lewis Hall and the Rev. Chris Williams. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation:7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of his mother, Peggy A. Hammond, 309 Carolina Ave., Rockwell.

 

Varn R. Michael

LEXINGTON — Varn Reid Michael, 94, Old Highway 52, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at his home after several months of declining health.

Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Beulah United Church of Christ. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Warren Saul

LEXINGTON — Warren Saul, 72, Rolling Park Drive, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at High Point Regional Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight,Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Rolling Park Drive.

 

Kenneth Suther

TROUTMAN — William Kenneth Suther, 90, Troutman, father of Stan Suther, Mooresville, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at Brian Center, Mooresville.

Services: Graveside, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial service, 3 p.m., Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday,Troutman Funeral Home.

Eunice H. Williams

LANDIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Eunice Lorraine Helms Williams, 86, 905 S. Kimmons St., who died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Aug. 2, 1914, in Union County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Babe and Sarah Baker Helms. She was a member of Harrisburg Church of God.

Her husband, JesseLee Williams, died in 1959. She was also preceded in death by two sons, James Ralph and Robert Lee Williams.

Survivors include daughter Lois Frye,Landis; son Franklin D. “Pete” Williams, Rockwell; brother Charlie Helms, Monroe; sister Louise Helms, Monroe; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: Noon Saturday, Harrisburg Church of God, Harrisburg, conducted by the Rev.Todd Jacobs. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Lois Frye, 607 W. Hoke St.

 

Candice Williams

Tabitha Candice Williams, 16, Salisbury, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in a boating accident.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Grace Fields Wise

Grace Fields Wise, 76, 414 Sunset Drive, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.
