Ray Von Bell

LEXINGTON — Ray Von Bell, 82, 29 Harrington Ave., died Tuesday (June 19, 2001).

Services: 2 p.m., Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Harrington Avenue.

 

Victoria H. Gonzalez

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Victoria Harding Gonzalez, 55, Salisbury, who died Friday (June 15) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 14, 1947, in California, Mrs. Gonzalez was a daughter of the late Michael Ids and Elizabeth Sibley Gonzalez. She was a nursing aide.

Evergreen Cremation Service is in charge.

 

James Edgar Lyerly

CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Friday for James Edgar Lyerly, 71, Cleveland, who died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born July 24, 1929, in Rowan County, Mr. Lyerly was a son of Edgar Maurice Lyerly, Salisbury, and the late Elsie Benson Lyerly. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and Salisbury Business College.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He retired as a bookkeeper and salesman with Salisbury Millwork.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he was in the choir and vestry.

A son, James Edgar Lyerly Jr., died Feb. 14, 1959.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Sarah Wilhelm Lyerly, whom he married Sept. 22, 1950; and sister Barbara Lyerly Allen, Cleveland.

Services: 3 p.m., Friday, Christ Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold Elsner. Burial, family plot in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Homer ‘Mac’ McDaniel

CHARLOTTE — Homer C. “Mac” McDaniel, 76, Charlotte, formerly of Mount Ulla, died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital,Charlotte.

Born Jan. 25, 1925, Mr. McDaniel was the son of the late E.B. and Ora McDaniel. He was a 1944 graduate of Mount Ulla High School and was a former floor-covering contractor.

A member of First United Methodist Church, he was a Stephen lay minister. He was past master of St. Andrews Lodge, a member of Scottish Rite bodies and Oasis Shrine Temple, Charlotte, and past president of Mecklenburg Shrine Club. He was an honorary member of Hejas Temple,Greenville, S.C.

His wife, Eva McDaniel, died June 8, 1999.

Survivors include daughters Beverly Cothran, Charlotte, and Nancy Payne, Hartsville, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Ivan H.M. Peden. Burial, Sunset Memory Garden.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Pinke Greene Pless

MOORESVILLE — Pinke Greene Pless, 84, West Lowrance Avenue, died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Eden Gardens.

Services: 2 p.m., Friday, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Duncan Presson

KANNAPOLIS — Vann Duncan Presson, 72, 207 Elwood St., died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 12, 1928, in Union County, Mr. Presson was a son of the late Vann B. and Kathleen Duncan Presson. He retired after 13 years from Fieldcrest Cannon Mills’ data processing department. He later was a bus driver for the Cabarrus County schools.

A member of Brookdale Baptist Church, he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a former secretary of Winecoff Lions Club.

Survivors include wife of 53 years Frances Andrews Presson; daughter Debbie A. Roscoe, Winter Springs, Fla.; sons Zane L. Presson, Charlotte, and Scott D. Presson, Kannapolis; sisters Mary Dean Presson Tucker, Monroe, and Patsy Presson Joyner, Charlotte; brothers Dowd Presson, Indian Trail, Billy J. Presson, Huntersville, and Ike N. Presson, Pinehurst; and five grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m., Saturday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ken Savage.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m., Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Elwood Street.

Katherine R. Revell

ALBEMARLE — Katherine Reeves Revell, 93, 213 N. Sixth St., died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.

Lena Moose Rich

KANNAPOLIS — Lena Moose Rich, 89, 902 Overhill Road, formerly of Grace Avenue, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at the Salisbury home of daughter Margaret Kreimes, with whom she lived.

Born Nov. 12, 1911, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Rich was a daughter of the late Arthur Farrell and Tena Rowland Moose. In 1980, she retired from Cannon Mills Co. sample department. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to daughter Margaret Kreimes, include daughters Nancy White, Mount Pleasant, Martha Womble, Buies Creek, and Rosemary Nerren, Concord; brothers Archie, Harold and Melvin Moose, all of Mount Pleasant; sister Birdia Baker, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Saturday, Bethel Bearcreek United Church of Christ, Mount Pleasant, conducted by the Rev. Charles Jones. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m., Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Dorothy Martin Twitty

The funeral will Friday for Dorothy Martin Twitty, 66, 722 S. Ellis St., who died Monday (June 18, 2001)at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Services: 1 p.m., Friday, Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Johnson. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m., Friday, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home on South Ellis Street.

Mitchell &Fair Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Joseph C. Woody

Joseph Clayton Woody, 78, Hefner VAMedical Center died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at the Medical Center.

BornOct. 1, 1922, in Idable, Okla., Mr. Woody, a son of the late Frank and Cora Bonser Woody, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He was a handyman.

Survivors include brother Jennie W. Morganson, Lexington.

The body was cremated. There will be no services or visitation.
