Ruth Vickery Lewis
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Wednesday for Ruth
Lenore Vickery Lewis, 79, 2761 Colorado Lane, who died Sunday (June 17, 2001)at her home
after two years of declining health and four months of serious illness.
Born March 30, 1922, in Kannapolis, Mrs. Lewis, she was the
daughter of the late James Lewis and Lattie Hinson Vickery. Primarily a homemaker, she
worked outside the home at various times as a mill worker, telephone operator and cab
driver.
Survivors include husband James Edward Lewis; daughters
Marilyn Owens, Charlotte, and Susan Dayvault and Mary Christian, both of Kannapolis;
stepdaughter Barbara Brock, Kannapolis; stepson Jerry Lewis,Kannapolis; sisters Dorothy
Pless, Landis, and Rachel Hill, Florence, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m., Wednesday, Whitleys Funeral Home,
conducted by the Rev. Charles Savage. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Fletcher N. Livengood
KANNAPOLIS Fletcher N. Livengood, 83, 811 Klondale
Ave., died Monday (June 18, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 4, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Livengood was a son
of the late Zeb Philip and Addie McIntyre Livengood. He had retired from Cannon Mills
Plant 1, No. 6 weave room and bleachery department after 49 years of service.
He was a member of Charity Baptist Church and its senior
citizens group. He was also a member of the Sunset Band, which played at the YMCA Senior
Citizens Center and the Cabarrus County Senior Center.
Survivors include wife Veta Drye Livengood; sons Jerry,
Chris and Gary Livengood, all of Kannapolis; daughters Donnie Baker, New Castle, Del., and
Joyce Whitten, Kannapolis; brother Thomas Livengood, Nevada; sister Edna Shoemaker,
Mooresville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 4 p.m., Wednesday, Whitleys Funeral Home
chapel, conducted by the Rev. R.J. Hammond. Burial, Kannapolis Cemetery.

Michael C. Morton
LINWOOD Michael Cornelius Morton, 48, Linwood, died
Monday (June 18, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several months of serious
illness.
Born Nov. 23, 1952, in Norfolk, Va., Mr. Morton was a son
of Sally Cole Jeffers, Virginia Beach, Va., and Shelton Cornelius Taylor, Greensboro. He
was educated in the Norfolk, Va., schools.
Owner/operator of Cherokee Communications, he was a member
of Spencer Presbyterian Church, Spencer.
A son, Casey Wade Morton, preceded him in death.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Carolyn
Ridenhour Morton, whom he married April 11, 1998; son Shelton Morton, Virginia Beach,Va.;
daughter Susan Ridenhour, China Grove; brothers Shelton C. Taylor, Trinity, and Lewis
Taylor, Asheboro; sisters Judi Cole, College Park, Md., and Linda Hawks, Pamela Osborne,
Roselyn Cox and Jill Marsh, all of Greensboro; and one grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m., Wednesday, Spencer Presbyterian Church,
Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Ruth Lenger, pastor. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m., Wednesday at the church parlor.

Dorothy Martin Twitty, 66, 722 S. Ellis St., died Monday
(June 18, 2001) at Kindred Hospital,Greensboro.
Born July 16, 1934, in Rutherfordton, Mrs. Twitty, a
daughter of the late West and Annie Martin, was educated in the Rutherfordton County
schools. She had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 30 years of service.
Her husband,Roy Fay Twitty, died in 1986.
Survivors include sons Percy Fay and Roy Spencer Twitty,
both of Salisbury, and Calvin Twitty,Greensboro; daughters Bettye Twitty Cuthbertson,
Dorothy Twitty Burnon, Patsy Twitty Dukes and Libby Twitty Toppings, all of Salisbury,
Linda Twitty Thacker,Greensboro, and Tonda Campbell, Michigan; brother Joe Martin,
Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Born May 21, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Walker was a
daughter of Sarah M. Jenkins, Columbus, Ohio, and the late John H. Jenkins. She was a
homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by husband
Thomas Lee Huggie Walker; sons Clinton Lee Walker, Atlanta, Ga., and Shane
Thomas Walker, Concord; and brothers John, Paul, Mike and Chris Jenkins, all of Columbus,
Ohio, and Jimmy Jenkins, Chicago.

Flossie K. Webster
BADIN Florence Flossie Knight Webster,
105, formerly of Spruce Street, died Monday (June 18, 2001) at Albemarle Lutheran Nursing
Home.
Born March 1, 1896, in Lancaster, S.C., Mrs. Webster was a
daughter of the late James Ellison and Lou Horne Knight. She had retired as a switchboard
operator with Concord Telephone Co.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Badin for
more than 60 years and a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Her husband, Robert Lee Webster, whom she married Dec. 20,
1925, died March 14, 1985.
Survivors include daughter Doris W. Teague, High Point;
three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 this morning at Stanly
Gardens of Memory. The Rev. David Alexander officiated.
