‘Joe’ Barringer

Joseph Wade “Joe” Barringer, 41, Salisbury, died Friday (June 15, 2001) at his home.

Son of Vernon L. and Mary Hilton Barringer, both of Rockwell, Mr. Barringer was born in Rowan County. Educated at East Rowan High School, he was a stone quarry worker.

Survivors include son Michael Wade Barringer, Salisbury; daughter Jennifer Michelle Barringer, Salisbury; and sisters Sherry B. Ludwick, Salisbury, and Darlene Gunter, Woodleaf.

The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

John H. Boger

MOCKSVILLE — John H. Boger, Ridge Road, died Saturday (June 16, 2001) at his home.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Ruby Strange Brown

Ruby Strange Brown, 97, formerly of Mahaley Avenue, died Saturday (June 16, 2001) at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

Mrs. Brown was born May 9, 1904, in Salisbury, daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Ida Byerly Strange. She was a graduate of Boyden High School and Salisbury Business College.

Employed by several doctors in Salisbury in her early life, she later served as a deputy registrar at the Rowan County Register of Deeds for 25 years. She then worked for the Western N.C. Association Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ until her retirement in 1974.

Active in local politics, she was the first woman to run for a Rowan County office when she became a Democratic candidate for register of deeds. She was also a past president of the Women’s Democratic Club.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Frances Goggin Bible Class. She served on the Christian Service Committee and was a past president of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.

She was also a member of the Gold and Silver Club and a charter member of the Salisbury Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she had served as president.

Her husband, Marion Thomas Brown, died May 4, 1977.

She is survived by a sister, Sadie S. Belk, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, graveside, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dale Steele, interim pastor of First Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Summersett Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the home of Mike Torrence, a great-nephew, at 1814 S. Fourth St.

‘Rick’ Prymock

ROCKWELL — Richard Michael “Rick” Prymock, 40, 1780 Organ Church Road, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born in Carbondale, Pa., Mr. Prymock was the son of Stephen and Marguerite Prymock of Carbondale. A veteran of the U.S.Army military police, he was a captain with the Hefner VA Medical Center Police Department.

Mr. Prymock was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Rowan County Peace Officers Association and the Knights of Columbus. He served as a coach for the Rowan County Youth Soccer Association.

His stepdaughter, Megan McQueen, also died in the accident, and their services will be combined.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Beth Fisher Prymock; sons Richard Prymock Jr., Charlotte, Daniel Prymock and Stephen Prymock, both of Rockwell, and Joseph Prymock, Spencer; stepchildren Jennifer Mesimer, Concord, and Kelly Mesimer and Tiffany McQueen, both of Rockwell; and brothers Randy Prymock and Charles Prymock, both of Pennsylvania.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. John Putnam and the Rev. Karl Aschmann. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Military graveside rites by DAV Chapter 27.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Mabel Turman

Mabel Goodman Turman, 84, Salisbury, died Friday(June 15, 2001) at her residence after six months of declining health.

Mrs. Turman was born July 30, 1916, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Franklin Floyd and Cora Lee Christy Goodman. She was educated in the Iredell County schools. She had worked at Leisure Lads Mfg. Co. in her early life and had retired from R.W. Norman Drapery Co.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she was a lifetime member of WELCA. She was active in the Patterson-Wesinger Sunday School Class and Circle 1.

Her husband, J. Lee Turman, died Feb. 5, 1992.

Survivors include sons J.L. Turman Jr., Salisbury, and Clinton Delane Turman, China Grove; daughters Kay Smith and Marlene Hinceman, both of Salisbury, and Sherry Towell, Cleveland; brothers Bill and Wayne Goodman, both of Cleveland; sisters Margaret Feimster and Doris Walden, both of Cleveland, and Ann Sherrill and Kathleen Karriker, both of Taylorsville; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Gene Bruce, pastor. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at Lyerly Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the residence.

Memorials: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 5202 Mooresville Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.

 

 

Marguerite Wakefield

Marguerite Mason Wakefield, 90, formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (June 15, 2001) in Tuscon, Ariz.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.
