Leroy “June”Colbert Jr., 73,
429 Grace St., died Thursday (June 14, 2001) at his home after two weeks of
serious illness.
Born May 13, 1928, in Salisbury,
Mr. Colbert, a son of the late Leroy and Mary Colbert, attended J.C. Price High
School. He retired from Owens-Illinois Co., and owned and operated Colbert’s
Inc.
A member of Gethsemane Baptist
Church, he was chairman of the video ministry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
and a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107.
Survivors include wife Dorothy
Henderson Colbert; son Leroy Colbert III, Salisbury; daughters Deborah Colbert,
Salisbury, Lydia Colbert Young, Greensboro, and Lorraine Colbert Miller,
Hampton, Va.; brother Bobby Smith, Salisbury; sister Lorraine Fuller,
Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

taxes with trucking companies. She was a Methodist.

Ray Logan; sons Christopher Greene, Woodbridge, Va., and Patrick Sparks, Myrtle
Beach, S.C.; and sister Betsy Earnhardt, New Jersey.

Dr. Joseph Leyburn Wilkerson, 87,
Highland Farms Retirement Community, Black Mountain, died Monday (June 11,
2001).
OnJan. 24, 1948, he married
Woodleaf native Evelyn Estelle Isenhour Wilkerson, now of Highland Farms.
Appointed by the Presbyterian
Church US to Ka Shing, Je Jyang Province, China, to serve as a medical
missionary in China, he was placed under house arrest for two years by the
Communists. He served in Taiwan from 1953 until 1980 and in 1996 was honored by
the Taiwanese-American Foundation for his service to Taiwan.
Services: A memorial service will
be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Montreat Presbyterian Church, Montreat. The Rev.
Richard White will officiate. Another memorial service will be held 2 p.m.
Monday at Unity Presbyterian Church, Woodleaf. Interment will follow in the
church cemetery.
