Richard H. Brinkley

Richard Henry Brinkley, 68, Salisbury, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Aug. 8, 1932, in Rowan County, Mr. Brinkley, a son of the late Otto Jacob and Laura Edwards Brinkley, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He retired from North Carolina Finishing Co. and served in the National Guard for eight years.

He was member of Spencer Presbyterian Church, Spencer. A charter member of Spencer Moose Lodge, he served in all local and state offices and was awarded the Pilgrim Degree. He was past president of the North Carolina Moose.

A scoutmaster for 17 years for Troop 347 in the Yadkin community, he received the Silver Beaver Award.

Survivors include wife Betty Ketchie Brinkley, whom he married Dec. 18, 1949; son Richard Henry “Rick” Brinkley Jr., Salisbury; daughter Kim Kincaid, Salisbury; brother Max Terry “Ted” Brinkley,Granite Quarry; and six grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m., Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ruth Lenger, pastor, Spencer Presbyterian Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Victor Jay Crisco

GRANITE QUARRY — Victor Jay Crisco, 55, 612 E. Lyerly St., died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Aug. 14, 1945, in Stanly County, Mr. Crisco, a son of the late Eddie A. and Gladys Doby Crisco, was employed by La Salla Bristol. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include son Victor Jay Crisco Jr., Box Elder, Mont.; brothers Eddie A. Crisco Jr., Albemarle, and Thomas Doby Crisco, Charlotte; sister Willie C. Pierce, Salisbury; and one grandson.

Services: 2 p.m., Saturday, Stanly Funeral Home chapel, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. David Colson and the Rev. Eddie Hudson. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Eddie A. Crisco Jr., 727 Corbin St., Albemarle.

Gladys C. Dial

KANNAPOLIS — Gladys Corine Dial, 91, 130 Half Dollar Road, Chapel Hill, formerly of E. 13th St., Kannapolis, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at the home she shared with her daughter Margaret Wilson of Chapel Hill. She had been in declining health for a number of years and seriously ill for six weeks.

Born Nov. 28, 1909, in Morgan County, Ga., Mrs. Dial was a daughter of the late Herschel S. and Georgia Cochran Dial. She formerly worked for Cannon Mills and was owner/operator of Gladys’ Beauty Shop.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include brother John Edwin Dial, Kannapolis; sister Kate Dial Moore, Lugoff, S.C.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Saturday, Jackson Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev.Sandy Yow. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1 p.m., Saturday, at the church.

Mack Dixon

LEXINGTON — Mack Dixon, 74, 207 Fuller Road, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Christopher J. Ferrare

ERIE, Pa. — Christopher J. Ferrare, 34, 2824 W. 33rd St., Millcreek Township, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001).

Born Nov. 30, 1966, in Erie, Mr. Ferrare was a son of Frank Ferrare, Erie, and Judith Schell Bodnar, Salisbury, N.C. He was formerly employed by Zurn Industries Inc. and Maleno Real Estate-Development, where he worked in maintenance and was an electrician.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Lisa Kovacs Ferrare; stepmother Arlene Ferrare, Erie; stepfather Howard Bodnar, Salisbury, N.C.; sons Justin and Josh Ferrare; daughters Mia and Kala Ferrare; sisters Denise Galvin,Erie, and Kelly Ewart, Salisbury, N.C.; brothers Mark and Patrick Ferrare and Frank Ferrare Jr., all of Erie, and Andrew and Matthew Ferrare, both of Salisbury, N.C.; stepsisters Tamara and Michelle Wawryzniak, both of Erie; and maternal grandfather William Schell.

Services: 9:30 a.m., Friday, John J. Quinn Funeral Home followed at 10 by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Visitation: 3-5 and 7-9 today at the funeral home.

 

Dorothy Fesperman

Dorothy “Dotty” Click Fesperman, 79, 635 Statesville Blvd., died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Retirement.

Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fesperman, a daughter of the late Daniel Cicero and Katie Lowder Click, was educated in the Rowan County schools and was a graduate of Catawba College.

She was a substitute teacher in the Salisbury city schools for 10 years. For 15 years, she was a volunteer through the Rowan County Public Library Outreach Program to nursing and rest homes. She volunteered 1,500 hours at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

A lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, she taught weekday church school for 12 years and was a member of the Eva Peeler Sunday school class and Peeler-Whitecar WELCA group.

Mrs. Fesperman established the Dorothy Click Fesperman Scholarship Fund for college students at St. John’s Lutheran Church and the James F. and Dorothy C. Fesperman Scholarship Fund at Catawba College.

Her husband, James Fisher Fesperman, died Aug. 20, 1982.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services: 3 p.m., Friday, St. John’s Lutheran Church chapel, conducted by the Rev. John B. Tucker and the Rev. Jennifer Ginn, associate pastors. Burial,City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m., Friday, in the church library.

Mitchell T. Foster

MOCKSVILLE — Mitchell Thomas Foster, 54, Westview Drive, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born April 10, 1947, in Rowan County, Mr. Foster, a son of the late Hubert L. and Hazel Swicegood Foster, was a machine operator with IngersolRand. He was a member of Believers Sunship Tabernacle.

Survivors include wife Betty Jean Tallent Foster; son Thomas A. Foster, Mocksville; daughter Norma George, Harmony; brothers Medford A. Foster, Mocksville, and Kenneth E. Foster, Advance; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Cooleemee Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Couch and the Rev. Russell Morris. Burial,Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Davie Funeral Service.

 

Rosa Lee Holland

HARMONY — Rosa Lee Holland, 78, formerly of Boundary Lane, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Mocksville.

Survivors include sons Larry and Otis Holland, both of Atlanta, Ga., Samuel Holland, Charlotte, Stamey Holland, Far Rockaway, N.Y., and J.C. Chambers, Salisbury; daughters Martha Johnson, Statesville, Margaret Peck, Phyllis Pruitt and Darlyn Holland, all of Cooleemee, and Carline Ferrell, Woodleaf; and 51 grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m., Sunday, Piney Grove AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Reginald Eldridge. Burial, church cemetery.

Olene G. Hudson

ALBEMARLE — Olene Goodman Hudson, 81, formerly of 612 Graham St., died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.

Mary Ann Lipscomb

MOCKSVILLE — Mary Ann Lipscomb, 60, 501 Pine Ridge Road, died Saturday (June 9, 2001) at her home.

Survivors include sons Archie Lipscomb Jr. and Anthony Lipscomb, both of the home, Aaron Lipscomb, Greensboro, and Derrick Lipscomb, Salisbury; brothers Dewey Parks and Hayden Clement, both of Mocksville, and Loyal Clement Jr., Ossing, N.Y.; sisters Alice Fortune, Lola Pettiford, Hannah McGee and Peggy Jones, all of Mocksville, and Jean C. Murdock, Woodleaf; and two grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m., Saturday, Church of God of Prophecy, East Spencer, conducted by Bishop James J. Lott. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. Burial, Fairfield Baptist Church cemetery.

Linda T. McKnight

CONCORD — The funeral will be Friday for Linda Elizabeth Thompson McKnight, 59, Houston,Texas, formerly of Concord, who died Saturday (June 9, 2001) in Houston, Texas. She was the mother of Mike Price,Kannapolis.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m.,Friday, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,China Grove. At other times, the family will be at the home of John Thompson, 1288 Laurel Wind Place.

 

Harold ‘Jim’ Reynolds

CHINA GROVE — Harold Eugene “Jim” Reynolds, 71, 230 McKnight Road, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Feb. 27, 1930, in Greenwood, Ill., Mr. Reynolds was a son of the late Edward and Doris Dassow Reynolds. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a truck driver for Swing Transfer Co.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a charter member of American Legion Kennedy Hall Post 106.

Survivors include wife Grace McKnight Reynolds; sons Marcus and Alan Reynolds, both of China Grove; daughters Debra Smith and Karen Reynolds, both of Salisbury, and Shannon Rodgers, China Grove; sisters Dorothy Mills, Wellsville, N.Y., Loretta Moriarity, Ida Chapin, Mary Sorenson and Shirley Anderson, all of St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 4 p.m., Friday, Grace Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Woodrow Frick. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on McKnight Road.

Billy Ray Smith

STATESVILLE — Billy Ray Smith, 67, 3241 Salisbury Hwy., father of Kathy Smith Myers, Salisbury, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001). He was formerly employed by Daniels Construction Co. in Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m.,Friday, Calvary Community Church. Burial, Iredell Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Salisbury Highway.
