Born Aug. 17, 1923, in Chesterfield,S.C., Mr.
Adams, a son of the late Ben T. and Mattie Hunter Adams, was a Baptist. He
retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1, distribution room.
Survivors include wife Kathleen Beaver Adams; son
Cecil Adams, China Grove; daughter Judy Adams Severt, Wilmington; brother John
D. Adams, Concord; sisters Shirley Stroud, Charlotte, Carleen Stroud,Mount
Pleasant, Annie Lang, Chesterfield, S.C., and Gennie Baker, Wadesboro; three
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Charles Ralph Cox, 66, 201 N. Lee St., died
Monday (June 11, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born July 30, 1934, in McCall, S.C., Mr. Cox was
a son of the late Harold and Clydia Garfield Cox. He was a retired theatrical
stage hand and a member of local 870 of IATSW Actor’s Union, Fayetteville. A
veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include wife Nettie Cox, Durham;
daughters Janice Ann C. Champion, Clayton, and Lana Sue Cox, Durham; sons
Charles R. Cox Jr.,Surf City, and Michael Cox, Hillsborough; eight
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Callie Mahaffey Hawkes, 81, Salisbury, died
Monday (June 11, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of Rowan
after several years of declining health.
Born June 19, 1919, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Hawkes,
a daughter of the late William C. and Emma Jane Prevette Mahaffey, was educated
in the Wilkes County schools. She was a member of Milford Hills Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husbands Stanford
White Templeton, who died April 17, 1961, and Dr. James H. Hawkes, who died in
1970.
Survivors include daughter Edna T. Patterson,
Shelby; brother Hayden Mahaffey, Winston-Salem; sister Linda Peoples,Winston-Salem;
three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday for Bryan Woodward,
79, Laurels of Salisbury, formerly of Ruby, S.C., who died Sunday (June 10,
2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 28, 1921, in Chesterfield County, S.C.,
Mr. Woodward, a son of the late Henry Shakespeare and Lela Hancock Woodward,
served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from China Grove Cotton
Mill in 1984.
Survivors include sons Elbert and David Woodward,
both of Kannapolis, Luther Woodward, Portsmouth, Va., Bennie Woodward, China
Grove, and Boyd Woodward, Ruby, S.C.; daughters Elaine Brown and Barbara Jean
Woodward, both of Kannapolis; brother John Henry Woodward, Wichita, Kan.;
sisters Mary Ruth Sechrest, Lexington, and Geraldine Hendrix, Pageland, S.C.; 18
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
