Roy Lester Anderson

MOCKSVILLE — Roy Lester Anderson, 78, U.S. Highway 601 S., died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Pearl K. Blackwelder

CONCORD — Pearl Kluttz Blackwelder, 78, Universal Healthcare, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at the nursing center.

Born March 24, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Blackwelder, a daughter of the late Charlie Lewis and Lillie Belle Burnette Kluttz, was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church, Kannapolis. She retired from Cannon Mills sewing room in 1977 due to ill health.

Her husband, Howard Lee Blackwelder, died Sept. 11, 1989.

Survivors include daughters Betty Moser, Concord, and Shelby Stallings, Kannapolis; son Bobby Lee Blackwelder, China Grove; brother George R. Kluttz, Concord; sister Bernice Eudy, Concord; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home,Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Shelby Stallings, 310 Elwood St., Kannapolis.

Betty L. Brindle

LEXINGTON — Betty Marie Lopp Brindle, 48, Turner Road, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. ,Friday, conducted by the Rev. Michael Evans at Holly Grove Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.

Mae Harris Eller

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Friday for Mae Harris Eller, 91, Rockwell, who died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare, Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeb Barr, associate pastor, and the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor, Immanuel Lutheran Church. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of granddaughter Mrs. Jeff Brooks, Rockwell.

Charlotte Hill

ALBEMARLE — Charlotte Hix Strickland Hill, 82, Albemarle, died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.

Born June 12, 1918, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Hill, a daughter of the late Robert James and Elizabeth Hix Strickland, was a member of Badin United Methodist Church. She retired as a bookkeeper from Morgan Motors.

Her husband, Charles R. Hill, died in 1961.

Survivors include daughters Beth Hill Chandler and Shaaron Hill Leonard, both of Badin; sister Lillian Nikitas, Virginia; brother J.C. Strickland, Virginia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.Robert E. Romanello. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Shaaron Leonard, 124 Walnut St., Badin.

Jean Webster Jacobs

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Friday for Mary Jean Webster Jacobs, 41, Granite Quarry, who died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at her home.

Born Sept. 12, 1959, in Fort Knox, Ky., Mrs. Jacobs was a daughter of Col. William T. Webster and Fay Hudgeons Webster, Granite Quarry. She was a graduate of West Charlotte High School and Presbyterian School of Nursing, Charlotte.

A registered nurse, she was employed at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, and Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Ronald Jacobs; son Ronald “Kirk”Jacobs, Granite Quarry; brother William “Bill” Webster,Charlotte; and sister Elizabeth Miller, Atlanta,Ga.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Hoyle. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-7:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury.

Charles H. Johnston

LEXINGTON — Charles Henry Johnston, 51, 513 Allen Yountz Lane, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Reedy Creek Church of Christ.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at 493 J.D. Essick Road.

 

Raymond C. Melton

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Raymond C. Melton, 85, 255 Arcadia Road, who died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after many years of declining health.

Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Melton, a son of the late George and Sue Woodard Melton, served with the U.S. Merchant Marine.

In his earlier years, he worked at Cannon Mills and was a self-employed grocer. He worked with the Kannapolis Police Department and the North Carolina Department of Correction for 1112 years. He eventually owned and operated Country Kitchen in Landis. The business included a car lot, service station and restaurant. He was a member of Kannapolis Church of God.

Survivors include wife of 39 years Ruth Daughtry Melton; sons Randy and Gene Melton, both of Kannapolis; stepdaughter Phyllis Shull, Concord; brother James Melton, Ruby, S.C.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m., Friday, Kannapolis Church of God, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

 

Ernest Hoke Wilhelm

ROCKWELL — Ernest Hoke Wilhelm, 79, Rockwell, died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born June 16, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Wilhelm, a son of the late Ernest Franklin and Grace Brown Wilhelm, was educated in the Rowan County schools.

He retired from Cannon Mills. A life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he was a former member of the church council. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include wife Dico Emilee Murphy Wilhelm; sons Vaughn Hoke Wilhelm, China Grove, and Linn Eugene Wilhelm, Kannapolis; sisters Ruth Morgan and Katie Bost, both of China Grove, and Doris Derrick, Irmo, S.C.; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m., Friday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Marcus Hovis. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home in Rockwell.
