CONCORD — Pearl Kluttz Blackwelder, 78,
Universal Healthcare, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at the nursing center.
Born March 24, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Blackwelder, a daughter of the late Charlie Lewis and Lillie Belle Burnette
Kluttz, was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church, Kannapolis. She retired from
Cannon Mills sewing room in 1977 due to ill health.
Her husband, Howard Lee Blackwelder, died Sept.
11, 1989.
Survivors include daughters Betty Moser, Concord,
and Shelby Stallings, Kannapolis; son Bobby Lee Blackwelder, China Grove;
brother George R. Kluttz, Concord; sister Bernice Eudy, Concord; five
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

ALBEMARLE — Charlotte Hix Strickland Hill, 82,
Albemarle, died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.
Born June 12, 1918, in Montgomery County, Mrs.
Hill, a daughter of the late Robert James and Elizabeth Hix Strickland, was a
member of Badin United Methodist Church. She retired as a bookkeeper from Morgan
Motors.
Her husband, Charles R. Hill, died in 1961.
Survivors include daughters Beth Hill Chandler
and Shaaron Hill Leonard, both of Badin; sister Lillian Nikitas, Virginia;
brother J.C. Strickland, Virginia; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Jean Webster Jacobs
GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Friday for
Mary Jean Webster Jacobs, 41, Granite Quarry, who died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at
her home.
Born Sept. 12, 1959, in Fort Knox, Ky., Mrs.
Jacobs was a daughter of Col. William T. Webster and Fay Hudgeons Webster,
Granite Quarry. She was a graduate of West Charlotte High School and
Presbyterian School of Nursing, Charlotte.
A registered nurse, she was employed at Carolinas
Medical Center, Charlotte, and Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was
a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include
husband Ronald Jacobs; son Ronald “Kirk”Jacobs, Granite Quarry; brother
William “Bill” Webster,Charlotte; and sister Elizabeth Miller, Atlanta,Ga.

Raymond C. Melton
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for
Raymond C. Melton, 85, 255 Arcadia Road, who died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at
Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after many years of declining
health.
Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Chesterfield County, S.C.,
Mr. Melton, a son of the late George and Sue Woodard Melton, served with the
U.S. Merchant Marine.
In his earlier years, he worked at Cannon Mills
and was a self-employed grocer. He worked with the Kannapolis Police Department
and the North Carolina Department of Correction for 1112 years. He eventually
owned and operated Country Kitchen in Landis. The business included a car lot,
service station and restaurant. He was a member of Kannapolis Church of God.
Survivors include wife of 39 years Ruth Daughtry
Melton; sons Randy and Gene Melton, both of Kannapolis; stepdaughter Phyllis
Shull, Concord; brother James Melton, Ruby, S.C.; one granddaughter; and one
great-granddaughter.

Ernest Hoke Wilhelm
ROCKWELL — Ernest Hoke Wilhelm, 79, Rockwell,
died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born June 16, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Wilhelm,
a son of the late Ernest Franklin and Grace Brown Wilhelm, was educated in the
Rowan County schools.
He retired from Cannon Mills. A life member of
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he was a former member of the church council. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include wife Dico Emilee Murphy
Wilhelm; sons Vaughn Hoke Wilhelm, China Grove, and Linn Eugene Wilhelm,
Kannapolis; sisters Ruth Morgan and Katie Bost, both of China Grove, and Doris
Derrick, Irmo, S.C.; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one
great-grandchild; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m., Friday, St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church, conducted by the Rev. Marcus Hovis. Burial, church cemetery.
