Charles Brown
Charles Vonzell “Speedy” Brown, 52, 1206 Dogwood Lane, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at his home after a month of serious illness.
Born Sept. 4, 1948, in Salisbury, Mr. Brown, a son of the late Tilmon Marshall and Sarah Simpson Brown, was a graduate of J.C.Price High School and completed a brick mason course.
He was a brick mason and did landscape work. A member of Mount Zion CME Church, he was also a member of the Methodist Men.
Survivors include son Dennis Davis,Salisbury; daughter Nakia Phillips, East Spencer; brothers Isaac Brown, Cleveland, Tilmon A. Brown Jr. and Calvin, Robert, Jerry and Terry Brown, all of Salisbury; and six grandchildren.
Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. L.V. Stennis. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Annie Collette Carter
CONCORD — Annie Pearl Collette Carter, 78, 716 Cabarrus Ave.W., died Monday (June 4, 2001) at her home.
Born April 5, 1923, in Stanly County, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Charles Fisher and Bedie V. Collette. She was formerly employed by Fieldcrest Cannon Mills plant 9.
Her husband, Lester Emmett Carter, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Charlotte Ann Baucom, Kannapolis; son Crawford “Jack” Carter, Salisbury; daughters Linda Kaye Eggers, Verlie “Judy” Mullins and Brenda Faye Thompson, all of Concord, and Carolyn Marie Layburn, Salisbury; brother Arthur Lane Collette,Surfside Beach, S.C.; sisters Mary Readling and Elloise Whitley, both of Concord; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

LEXINGTON — Dorothy Mae Walser Dunn, 74, Arrington Drive, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Thomasville Medical Center after a year of declining health.

Mae Harris Eller
ROCKWELL — Mae Harris Eller, 91, Rockwell, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare, Salisbury.
Born Dec. 20, 1909, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Eller, a daughter of the late Oliver P. and Minnie Byrd Harris, was educated in the Montgomery County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Rockwell.
Her husband, William Claud Eller, died April 14, 1999.
Survivors include sons Vance A., Reid A., Max O. and William Grady Eller, all of Rockwell; daughter Alvyn E. Barnes, Rockwell; sister Virgie Poplin, Albemarle; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Debbie B. Fisher
Debbie Jean Bernhardt Fisher, 45, Salisbury, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Jan. 31, 1956, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fisher was a daughter of Howard Parks and Ruth Lingle Bernhardt. She was a 1974 graduate of East Rowan High School and attended Kings College, Charlotte.
Employed as an assistant in the human resources department at Rowan Regional Medical Center, she was a member of Christiana Lutheran Church, Sister Lucille WELCA and Theresa Safrit Discussion Sunday School Class.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Hugh Carson Fisher, whom she married Nov. 12, 1978; son Casey O’Neil Fisher, of the home; daughter Lauren Elizabeth Fisher, of the home; brother Perry H. Bernhardt, Salisbury; and sister Belinda B. Cozart, Mooresville.

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Terry Eugene Hammond, 19, 119 Dallas Ave., who died Sunday (June 3, 2001) in Badin.
Born June 15, 1981, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hammond was the son of Lester P. Holbrooks and Frankie Jean Hammond, of the home. He was employed by Lowes Motor Speedway in delivery.

Johnnie Mae Hayes
Johnnie Mae Correll Hayes, 63, Gary, Ind., a Salisbury native, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) in Gary, Ind.
Born Jan 9, 1938, Mrs. Hayes was a daughter of Cornelia Correll Jones, New York City, and the late John Frank Smith.
She was educated in the Salisbury schools and was valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of J.C. Price High School. She received a bachelor of science degree from North Carolina Central University, Durham, in 1958. She received a master’s degree from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind.
In the early 1960s, she was a mathematics teacher and at Hillside High School, Durham. Later she taught in the Gary, Ind., public schools, where she was recognized as a master teacher and mentor.
Mrs. Hayes was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and several civic and alumni organizations while in Salisbury.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include son William “Bill” Hayes, Oakland, Calif.; an aunt, Mamie Correll Morris, Salisbury, who reared her in her home; foster sister Odessa Carson Ingram, Cleveland, Ohio; half sister Deborah Harris,New York City; and half brother Dorsey Jones, New York City.
Funeral services were June 5 at Guy and Allen Funeral Directors Chapel in Gary, Ind. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery, also in Gary,Ind.
Perry E. Jackson
Perry Eugene Jackson, 74, 709 Park Ave., died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at his home.
Born April 9, 1927, in Chesterfield,S.C., Mr. Jackson was a son of the late Ada Jackson Miles. He attended elementary school in Pageland, S.C., and graduated from Carolina Children’s Home High School, Columbia, S.C.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1990, he retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon after 33 years. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Pageland, S.C.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Knight Jackson; son Perry E. Jackson Jr., Salisbury; daughters Wanda J. Jackson, Silver Springs, Md., Elizabeth E. Osborne, Salisbury, and Shirley J. Miles, Granite Quarry; stepdaughter Sandy M. Rogers,China Grove; brother David J. Miles, Pageland, S.C.; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev.Robert Turner. Graveside, 2 p.m., National Cemetery at VA Medical Center. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.
Visitation: The body will be taken to the home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends at the home beginning at 7.

Mr.Rouzer was an aviator in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church.
