Margaret Hodge

KANNAPOLIS — Margaret Lee Shaw Hodge, 79, 903 W. “B”St., died Sunday (June 3, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mildred C. Joines

LANDIS — The funeral will be Tuesday for Mildred Correll Joines, 81, 605 S. Deal St., who died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born May 22, 1920, in Landis, Mrs. Joines was a daughter of the late John Calvin and Sarah Augusta Wright Correll. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She had retired from Linn Corriher Mills, where she worked in the winding room.

Survivors include husband Robert Lee “Dick” Joines; son Dickie R. Joines, Kannapolis; daughter Judy J. Wallace, Landis; brother Dearl Correll, Columbia, S.C.; sisters Olene Graeber and Sadie Parker, both of Landis, Peggy Wofford, China Grove, and Doris Finney, Salisbury Lutheran Home; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m., Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis.

Billie Lee Jones

The funeral will be Tuesday for Billie Lee Jones, 76, Salisbury, who died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare.

Born July 8, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Roy Lee and Thelma Cooper Jones. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired from the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant, he had also retired as a long-distance truck driver with Byrd Motor Lines.

Survivors include wife Beverly Scribner Jones; son John A. Jones, Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter Billie Jones Daniel, Currie; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m., Tuesday for immediate family only at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, VA Medical Center location, conducted by a VA chaplain.

Visitation: None.

Sallie Spillman

MOCKSVILLE — Sallie Brown Spillman, 87, Junction Road, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at her home.

Born Jan. 6, 1914, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Spillman was a daughter of the late Clinton J. and Dessie Templton Brown. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonso Spillman, and sons Dock L. and Calvin Delano Spillman.

Survivors include sons Clarence L., Joseph A. and Alphonso Spillman, all of Mocksville, RichardT. and Roger Spillman, both of Cooleemee, and Keith M. Spillman,Salisbury; brother James R. Brown, Toledo, Ohio; sisters Alice Gibson, Albemarle, and Bessie Vick, Yanceyville; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday,Davie Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Robert Creason. Burial, Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

 

Morris L. Steinman

KENTON, Ohio — Morris J. Steinman, 87, Kenton, father of Dr. Charles Steinman, Salisbury, N.C., died Sunday (June 3, 2001) at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home. Burial at Grove Cemetery.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Lou Watkins

SPENCER — The funeral will be Wednesday for Betty Lou Watkins, 59, Bethamy Nursing Center, who died Thursday (May 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two days of serious illness.

Services: 1 p.m., Wednesday, Lilly’s Chapel Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Cowan. Burial,Oakwood Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arthur Gladden

The funeral will be Wednesday for Arthur “Koot” Gladden, 69, 737 Heiligtown Road, who died Friday (June 1, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after two months of serious illness.

Born June 27, 1931, in Winnsboro, Mr. Gladden, a son of the late Jim and Nicie Boulware Gladden, was educated in the Winnsboro schools. Retired from PPG Industries, he was a former member of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Theodore Gladden, East Spencer, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Willie J. Gladden,Oklahoma City, Okla., Jerome Gladden, Washington, D.C., and U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Thomas Gladden, Sumter, S.C.; daughters Rita Sherman, Winston-Salem, Mildred Walker, Raleigh, Oleatha Gladden, Washington, D.C., and Erma G. Headen, East Spencer; brother Eugene Boulware,Maryland; sisters Alberta Trapp Borders and Charlotte Ann Miller, both of Salisbury, and Maggie Norman and Cora Miller, both of East Spencer; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m., Wednesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Linda Gladden. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: Noon Wednesday, at the funeral home.
