Georgia Sheets Baker

KANNAPOLIS — Georgia Sheets Baker, 84, 313 Triece St., died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital, Lexington.

Born July 12, 1916, in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Connie Mack and Queenie Dancy Sheets. She had retired from Cannon Mills, where she worked in the spinning room.

Her husband, James Leon Baker, died in 1995.

Survivors include brothers Paul Sheets, Lexington, Jack Sheets, Millers Creek, and Arnold Sheets, South Carolina; and sisters Allie Martin, Johnson City, Tenn., and Ennis Shepherd, Wilbar.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Charles V. Brown

Charles V. Brown, 1206 Dogwood Lane, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at his residence.

Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Michael Burison

CHINA GROVE — Michael Stanley Burison, 52, 308 Edgewood Circle, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Born March 20, 1949, in New York, Mr. Burison was the son of the late Michael E. and Elinore P. Dunkouski Burison. He was educated in the New York schools. Employed at Wendy’s as a cook, he was a member of Rock Solid Church in Landis.

Survivors include brother Roger Burison, China Grove, and sister Sandra Burison, Lancaster, N.Y.

The body will be cremated and sent to New York. Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Woodrow Chandler

TROUTMAN — Woodrow Wilson Chandler, 84, 503 Shepherd Road, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Maple Leaf Nursing Center.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Vanderburg United Methodist Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. tonight at Neill Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Mildred C. Joines

LANDIS — Mildred Correll Joines, 81, 605 S. Deal St., died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born May 22, 1920, in Landis, Mrs. Joines was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Sarah Augusta Wright Correll. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She had retired from Linn Corriher Mills, where she worked in the winding room.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee “Dick” Joines.

Survivors include son Dickie R. Joines, Kannapolis; daughter Judy J. Waller, Landis; brother Dearl Correll, Columbia, S.C.; sisters Olene Graeber and Sadie Parker, both of Landis, Peggy Wofford, China Grove, and Doris Finney, Salisbury Lutheran Home; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis.

Billie Jones, 76, Salisbury, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare.

Myrtle Lee Lowder

ALBEMARLE — Myrtle Lee Ritchie Lowder, 89, 28028-A Austin Road, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Friendship United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrill and the Rev. Aubrey Whitley. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. Other times the family will be at the residence.

LEXINGTON — James L. McGuire, 63, Front Street, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at his home.

ALBEMARLE — Ira Grace Harvell Page, 83, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Flora Freeman, 241 N. Sixth St.

Martha Pinkham

Martha Davidson Goldwire Fellows Pinkham, 83, died Saturday (June 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born Dec. 12, 1917, in Macon, Ga., Mrs. Pinkham was the daughter of the late George D. and Mattie Mae Mitchell Davidson. She was educated in the schools of Bibb County, Ga.

Retired from Eddie’s Deli, she had also worked at Parrish Bakery and was the former owner of Jay’s Restaurant. She was a member of Milford Hills Baptist Church and the Salisbury Moose Lodge.

Her husband, Edward Oulton Pinkham, died in 1982, and a daughter, Arlene Foster, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons Charles L. and Clarence B. Fellows, both of Salisbury; daughters JoAnn Gaither, Woodleaf, Virginia Kraemer, Piscataway, N.J., Clarise Spires, Hickory, Martha Bostian and Debbie Mesimer Insley, both of Salisbury, Sharon Sealey, Charlotte, and Claire Snider, Richmond, Va.; brothers Jim Davidson, Jupiter, Fla., and Joe Davidson, Macon, Ga.; sisters Frances Davis, Macon, Ga., and Betty Emory, Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Lyerly Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson, pastor of Lebanon Lutheran Church. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Debbie Mesimer Insley, 106 Yorkshire Drive.

Harold L. Thomas

CONCORD — Harold L. Thomas, 63, 5980 Bost Cutoff Road, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at his residence.

Born Jan. 4, 1938, in Spartanburg County, S.C., he was the son of the late Zeb and Lillie Belle Thomas. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he had retired as owner of Thomas Heating and Air Service Co.

Survivors include wife Mardice Brewington Thomas; sons Ricky Thomas, Mooresville, Billy Wayne Thomas, Stanfield, and Roger Dale Thomas Jr., Concord; daughter Brenda Kay Thomas, Kannapolis; brother Buck Thomas, Spartanburg, S.C.; sister Ruby Pruitt, Spartanburg, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Bill Baugess. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
